*Why Brake Calipers Start Leaking Oil – 5 Common Causes*
If you’ve noticed brake fluid leaking near your wheels, your caliper might be the culprit. Here are the main reasons it happens:
*1. Worn-out piston seals*
The rubber seals inside the caliper wear down over time from heat and friction. Once they crack, fluid starts seeping out.
*2. Corrosion on the caliper piston*
Rust and dirt build up on the piston, damaging the seal when it moves in and out. Common in cars exposed to road salt and water.
*3. Damaged brake lines or fittings*
A loose or corroded fitting at the caliper connection point can cause leaks, even if the caliper itself is fine.
*4. Overheating brakes*
Repeated hard braking overheats the caliper, degrades the seals, and causes them to fail faster.
*5. Poor maintenance / low-quality parts*
Using cheap rebuild kits or skipping regular brake fluid changes lets moisture in, which speeds up corrosion.
*Quick tip:* If you see fluid, don’t drive it. Low brake fluid = weak braking. Get it checked ASAP.
