If you must leave your car unattended to for a long time for some reasons, here are some tips to preserve your car so that it remains hale and hearty when you return to it.

1. Give your car a proper wash:
Wash your car you intend parking for a long time properly including the undercarriage.

2. Drain the used engine oil and replace with fresh oil and filter:
Changing oil and filter is a good approach to take because used oil contain moisture, metal filings, sludge and some other corrosive elements. After changing the engine oil and filter to a new one, drive the car for a while so that the oil will circulate inside the engine.

3. Fill up your fuel tank:
This is yet another important tip if you want to store your car for a long time. If you fill up your tank, it will help prevent moisture from entering your fuel tank thereby preventing rust in there.

4. Park the car inside a garage or under a shade:
The best place to park your car is inside a garage; it will be safer and clean in there. If there is no garage handy, you can sort for a shade to park under.

5. Take down the battery and store in a safe place:
After removing the battery, you can use grease on the terminals and wire ends of the battery to prevent rusting.

6. Do not engage the parking brakes:
It is a good thing to use the parking brakes, but leaving it that way for a very long time is where there is an issue.

7. Inflate the tyres properly:
This will enable your tyres to be in proper conditions when you get back to your car. Proper inflation prevents cracking of the sidewall and flat stops.

8. Jack up your car and to save your tyres:
Instead of leaving your stationary car to rest on the tyres for a very long time, you can just jack it up. This will prevent your tyres from developing flat spots. You can use four jacks or block of woods to do this.

9. Use otapiapia inside your car:
Place rat poisons in some strategic positions in the car such as the engine bay. This is to prevent rats from feasting on your wires. That can be a very big problem.

10. Use camphor inside your car.

1. Support Your Back
Slide your tailbone as close to the seat back as possible. Aim for a two- to three-finger gap between the back of your knees and the front of your seat. If your vehicle doesn’t allow for the proper position, a lumbar or back cushion may help.

2. Lift Your Hips
If you can, adjust your “seat pan” (the part you sit on) so that your thighs are supported along their entire length and your knees are slightly lower than your hips. This will increase circulation to your back while opening up your hips.

3. Don’t Sit Too Close
You should be able to comfortably reach the pedals and press them through their full range with your entire foot. Safety is also a consideration here;studies show that drivers whose chests were closer to the wheel were significantly more likely to suffer severe injuries to the head, neck and chest in front- and rear-end collisions.

4. Get The Right Height
Make sure your seat raises your eye level at least three inches above the steering wheel while allowing sufficient clearance between your head and the roof.

5. Lean Back (A Little)
The angle of your seat back should be a little greater than a perpendicular 90 degrees. At 100 to 110 degrees, the seat will put the least pressure on your back. Leaning too far back forces you to push your head and neck forward, which can cause neck and shoulder pain and tingling in the fingers.

6. Set Your Headrest
Set the top of the headrest between the top of your ears and the top of your head; it should just touch the back of your head when you’re sitting comfortably. The headrest is also important in reducing whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.

7. Use Lumbar Support
If your car has adjustable lumbar support, set it (using both the front-back and up-down controls) so you feel an even pressure from your hips to your shoulders. If your car doesn’t have automatic support, a lumbar pillow or even a rolled-up towel can help.

8. Adjust Your Mirrors
Prevent neck strain by making sure your rear-view and side mirrors are properly adjusted.

Your car’s rear-view mirror serves a multitude of purposes that help keep you safe as a driver. The rear-view mirror promotes an alert driving experience by allowing you to see behind your vehicle without turning your head.

By checking the rear-view mirror, you can monitor traffic and prepare for any potential dangers. It’s also helpful with parking as it gives a clear line of sight to the sides and rear of the vehicle. The rear-view mirror is a great asset when backing into a parking space, parallel parking, and exiting a parking space.

All mirrors serve an essential function, and while it may seem like common sense, it’s best to educate yourself on how to use the mirrors before driving effectively. Before you begin a trip, check all of your mirrors, and adjust them accordingly.

Most people attempt to adjust their rear-view mirror or their side mirrors while driving; this can prove to be distracting and dangerous. Take time to understand your specific vehicle’s best mirror positioning in reference to how you’re sitting.

Once your mirrors are adjusted, it’s essential to make sure they’re clean. Dirty mirrors can limit visibility and response time. Don’t hesitate to run your car through a quick drive-thru car wash before starting your commute.

The rear-view mirror’s role is to ensure your safety on the road and the safety of other drivers as well. While driving, it’s important to quickly check all mirrors before making any sudden stops, switching lanes, turning, or accelerating.

Most driving instructors suggest checking your mirrors every five to eight seconds with a glance. A glance does not mean studying the mirrors, but more along the lines of a quick check. It’s important not to stare off into your rear-view mirror as you can miss hazards in front of you.

Checking your mirrors frequently gives you an adequate mental map of what’s happening on the road. From moments if there’s a vehicle about to hit you from the rear or an item falling off of a truck, mirror checking keeps you prepared.
