It's Not My Fault!" Type of Driver

Are you involved in approximately three road traffic accidents per year, always quick to shift blame, saying "It's not my fault, it's the other guy's fault"? Well, one day, your life may be at risk. Where will you proclaim your innocence then - in heaven or hell?

It's not about being right; it's about anticipating situations and prioritizing safety.

If you're such a driver, consider two options:

1. Improve your driving skills.
2. Stop driving before it's too late.

There's a difference between causing an accident and contributing to one. If someone is overtaking wrongly on a sharp curve:

- Reduce speed.
- Slightly move off the road to give way.
- Note the license plate and report.

By doing so, you've avoided an accident, protecting life, property, and road infrastructure.

The other person may be at fault but by you not avoiding, you are contributing to that accident. Take note that the one at fault, is not always the one to die in a collision.

Remember, SAFETY COMES BEFORE RIGHT OF WAY.

Good driving doesn't happen by accident. Whether you're a professional driver or just commuting to work, we all need to learn and practice safe moves daily.

Defensive Driving

Defensive driving does not require a high degree of special training. The characteristics of a defensive driver are the same characteristics that apply to many aspects of our lives. Let’s look at the five most important requirements for defensive driving.
1. KNOWLEDGE

Defensive drivers take time to educate themselves about safe driving techniques. They know how to recognize hazards and avoid collisions. They know the traffic laws in their area. This knowledge helps them know how to act correctly and quickly in traffic situations. They also know how to properly maintain their vehicles in a safe operating condition.

2. ALERTNESS

Defensive drivers are alert, both to traffic conditions and to how their own mental and physical conditions may affect their driving. They pay attention to the traffic situation to the front, sides and rear, glancing in rear- and side view mirrors many times a minute. They give all their attention to the task of driving.

3. FORESIGHT

Defensive drivers know that their worst enemy is the unexpected. They never assume the other driver will do the right thing. They anticipate hazards by scanning the road to size up the traffic situation as far ahead as possible. In this way they are able to prepare for hazards rather than simply react to them. They practice long-range foresight by keeping their vehicles well-maintained, by checking them before driving, and by always wearing a safety belt.

4. JUDGMENT

Good drivers use common sense and knowledge to make decisions wisely and quickly. They maintain control of their behavior, resisting the temptation to make risky manoeuvres to get somewhere faster or to outmaneuver other drivers. They pass only when it is safe, and always look for the safest, rather than the speediest, alternatives in any traffic situation. They are courteous, even when other drivers are not.

5. SKILL

Defensive drivers develop the skills necessary to operate a vehicle properly and safely. They know the safe and legal way to make turns, change gears, brake and pass. They can “listen” to their cars for signs of engine trouble, and they can perform simple emergency repairs, such as changing a tire.

You don’t have to have lightning fast reflexes or unusual mental and physical abilities to be a defensive driver. Defensive driving is simply a matter of common sense, education and a safe attitude on the road.

Managing in our times.

With a mix of personal self‑management, safer driving habits, community norms, and targeted enforcement, is preventable.

Causes:
Road rage often stems from stress, delays, perceived disrespect, and poor road conditions.

Prevention:
- Plan and buffer time. Leave earlier as delays trigger anger.
- Stay calmed: Take deep breaths to reset your mood.
- Adopt defensive driving. Assume others will make mistakes, slow down, keep distance, and signal early.
- Avoid escalation: Don’t respond to insults, gestures, or tailgating.
- Recognize fatigue and stress: Yawning, tunnel vision, or irritability are signs to stop and rest.

Always remember, Road rage is both an individual choice and a social problem.

Always stay Calm.

The triangular warning sign was invented in 1909 in Paris as the first international agreement on road signs at the International Road Congress.

Triangular shapes have maximum visibility, universal recognition and a global symbol for danger/caution on roads.

Features:
Red border + white/yellow background + black pictogram.

Quick Checklist.

i. Sleep; route set; contact informed.
ii. Lights, tyres, brakes, wipers checked.
iii. Essentials packed: water, charger, torch, reflective vest.
iv. Stop plan: pull over at first sign of fatigue.

The techniques:
✓ Use high beams wisely.
✓ Increase following distance.
✓ Scan farther ahead.
✓ Avoid sudden maneuvers.

Night driving comes with reduced visibility, increased fatigue risk, and high chance of collisions.
Slower speeds, longer following distances, and sharper attention is the way.

Drive to stay alive, Your love one count on You.
