Land Rover Owners Namibia

Land Rover Owners Namibia The club shall have the following objectives;
To bring together owners of Land Rover vehicles. To pro To celebrate the outgoing defender.

I’m going to greet you all with a wave today known to most land rover owners as the landy wave. WAVE

From humble beginnings in the sand on a beach in England to the 2 millionth Defender being built this month (June 2015). We all are here because of our love of a brand which invokes passion in our hearts, and yes all land rovers’ has a soul. I'm going to quote Albert Pretorius from Jaguar Land rov

er QUOTE “there used to be a time where we would have sold a land rover in khaki shorts with a Leatherman on the belt land rover standing axle twisted on the on the showroom floor, to where we are today selling the most luxurious 4x4’s in a suit and tie” UNQUOTE

This just shows you how the Land Rover has evolved through the years and this heritage and growth we want to carry forward to the club, we want to cater for all land rover enthusiasts. We saw it fitting to divide the club into three categories based on the vehicles suspension. LEAFERS being the oldies

COILERS being the defenders up to the disco 2 classic range rovers and P38’s

INDEPENDANTS being all the new models including the free landers

Most of the entire club should be to bring together family and friends without any political drawbacks which haunts most of motor clubs in Namibia. We are also busy with an affiliation with ALRC the Association of Land Rover Clubs in England; this affiliation will open other avenues for the club. We have a lot of ideas from organising events and more, but this will only be possible if we all join hands and work together. Later this year we will see the end of the iconic look of the land rover after 66 years in production. There has been as suggestion from future members that we get a convoy together and travel to South Africa and join the LANDY FESTIVAL at Soetdoring, where we as LAND ROVER OWNERS NAMIBIA can join in the longest convoy and a land rover badge made up of land rovers. I can keep on talking about all the future plans and ideas so I will end my introduction now. Welcome again everybody enjoy and most of all have fun, because this is why we are here.

OUTDOOR AND 4X4 FESTIVAL - Penalty Shots
🚕🚗🚌🚐🚙🚕🚗🛻🚐
If you wondered what transgressions would qualify for a penalty shot, here are only a few examples from the weekend.
👉Official Weekend Penalty Shot (straf dop) Charges:

🥃 Albert van Niekerk of LR Parts, guilty of selling us far too many parts. He is responsible for more impulse purchases than Black Friday.

🥃 Pieter Scholtz, found guilty of wandering around camp looking emotionally unavailable after having recently sold his Land Rover. Witnesses described him as “a snake 🐍 that missed its meal.”

🥃 Herman Strauss, rolled in with a brand-new Defender just to remind the rest of us that some people are clearly doing better in life. Very inconsiderate behaviour. 😕

🥃 Gundula Perry, charged with overlanding fraud after fitting a bonnet spare-wheel bracket for maximum expedition appearance… but leaving the actual spare wheel safely at home where it could not possibly help anyone. Experts confirmed the setup was “all show, no puncture plan.”

🥃Paul Meyburg, awarded a penalty shot for arriving with the dirtiest vehicle of the weekend. His Land Rover was so caked in mud from the drive to the event that some people thought it was a new camouflage colour.

🥃 Willi Greef, climbed onto the roof of the Canyon Farm Stall to inspect an old Land Rover on display like he’d discovered a sacred fossil. Sir, it’s a farm stall, not Jurassic Park.

🥃 Bernd Röder, still confidently operating a thirsty 4.5 V8 Toyota Double Cab while fuel prices are out here doing CrossFit. ⛽

🤔 Concern is, however, growing around penalty officer Japie, who was repeatedly seen 👀 sampling the alcoholic liquid personally under the excuse of "quality control purposes" as is clearly documented in the photographic evidence.

⚖ It should be noted that nobody is ever forced to drink the penalty shot themselves, they may legally be donated to another participant… although this almost never happens because everyone is mysteriously very committed to “the juice" and serving out the penalty. ⚖

OUTDOOR AND 4X4 FESTIVAL (LAND ROVER FESTIVAL)
🚕🚗🚌🚐🚙🚕🚗🛻🚐🚌 🚕🚗🚌🚐🚙🚕🚗🛻🚐🚌

The recently held Outdoor and 4x4 Festival (Land Rover Festival) held at Canyon Road House and environs carried a competitive section with it making for interesting and challenging fun. Hollard Namibia and M&Z Motors were a key sponsor in this event 🤝 . M&Z Motors also sent three cars for display 👀 purposes, namely a JAC T9, a LDV and a Ineos Grennadier. These vehicles made for stunning impressions.

The first competition was connected to the sighting of animals on the !!Garas Self Drive 4x4 Route. Each competitor got a score card upon which sightings needed to be marked while on the route.

These sightings would be kept on record and submitted to the organizers at the prize giving function.

Together with the prize giving, the usual penalty shots were handed out.
👉See previous post for explanation of penalty shots.

The winner in this competition was Johan and Marlene Pretorius who won with a very narrow margin sighting a “koggelmander” Agama Lizard and a huge “springkaan” Grasshopper. While these were not listed on the sightings document Johan and Marlene used their Off Road mentality to list these sightings not realizing that it would count toward the final points.

They won a N$ 1000 voucher sponsored by Pupkewitz Keetmanshoop.💰💵

Next up was the Dirt Drag event on the Canyon Farm Yard premises which is outside of the Gondwana Park.

This challenge entailed two competitors starting off on a double track turning into a single track over a certain distance where there was a turnaround point and then racing back to the start finish line.

A lot of fun was had by all and the eventual winner was Wihan Schutte who won N$ 1000 in cash sponsored by Land Rover Owners Namibia (LRON). Second place was won by Uwe Kuhnel and third went to Dave Wright (slowest time) respectively winning N$ 750 and N$ 500.00 in cash. Johnny Hanekom put up a strong fight with his Land Rover Defender 130 but was unfortunately disqualified for a jump start and then a short cut taken.
💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵

Sunday morning 07.00 was the Walk 5 klm, Run 10 klm and Cycle 20 klm. All the cpompetitiors got off to an early start in the fresh, cold morning air as one can only experience in the South of Namibia.🚶‍♀️‍➡️🚶‍➡️🏃‍➡️🏃‍♀️‍➡️🚴‍♂️🚴

Walk: 1st Albert van Niekerk, 2nd George Rudiger and 3rd Gundula Perry all winning cash prizes of N$ 750, N$ 500 and N$ 250 respectively.
💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵

Albert was a sponsor for the event representing L R Parts and George Rudiger who is 76 years young and one of the very first members to join LRON. 3rd place went to Gundula Perry who did exceptionally well. Prizes also cash of N$ 750, N$ 500 and N$ 250 respectively.
💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵

LR Parts rewarded the most well-kept Land Rover 🎇 with a N$ 2500.00 voucher which went to Johnny Hanekom and the most original Land Rover award went to Mr T (Tuyoleni) also a N$ 2500.00 voucher.
💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵

The Know Namibia Quiz, 💡 which made for interesting answers in some cases was eventually won by Mr T (Tuyoleni) winning N$ 1000.00 Pupkewitz voucher and second was Gundula Perry who one a N$ 500.00 Pupkewitz voucher. Joint in third place was Bernd Roder, Robert Caspari and Zolla each winning a Santam note book and Zolla won a pair of head phones.
💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵💰💵

That concluded the competitive section of the festival and tremendous fun was had by all.👏👍🤘👌💪😎

So what happened at the LRON Outdoor and 4x4 Festival, you are wondering❓

Day 1️⃣ kicked off 🦵 with registrations, a quick briefing, and then straight into convoy mode; heading out on the !!Garas 4x4 route (more scenic than savage, but we’re not complaining). Sundowners🌅 🍻🍷🥃 wrapped it up perfectly before rolling back to Canyon Roadhouse.

Day 2️⃣ That’s where things got loud. Everybody left for a farm called Canyon Farm Yard where a Gymkhana and dust drags took place for a few brave ones. 🏁 The knockout rounds had everyone holding their breath. Drivers pushed limits, spectators 👀 lost their voices. 🗣️ And just when you thought it was over… another 4x4 route for the adrenaline addicts. 👌
The day closed off with gin tasting 👄(yes please 🍸) and a Namibia quiz 💡that had us all second-guessing everything we thought we knew.

Day 3️⃣ started before sunrise for a few participants (who approved that?) 😟 with a 5️⃣ km walk, a 1️⃣0️⃣ km run and a 2️⃣0️⃣ km bicycle ride... proof that some people really do have endless energy 😎.
Then it was time to soak in the views 👀at Fish River Canyon before lining up the beasts 🚙🚕🚗🚌🚐🚙🚕🚗🛻🚐🚌 for the final showcase. The festival came to closure with the usual penalty shots 🥃 and prize-giving, it was the perfect rounding off of the 3️⃣ day event.
👉 Keep your 👀 on the page for extra post on the penalty shots (straf dope) and prize-giving❗️

This was followed by a 4x4 drive... because why not push it a little further❓ Back at the Festival tent in the afternoon, the vibe shifted.
Gin 🍸 tasting by Naute Kristall Kellerei, smooth, local and dangerously delicious.😃
For those who were still going strong, there was a "Know your Namibia Quiz" to survive into the evening. 🤓

❓... is it worth it❓

✔ because ‘normal roads’ feel a bit too mainstream.🏳
✔ it’s a backup plan for when Google Maps 📡gives up.🧭
✔ you don't need to follow roads.🛣
✔ why be normal❓

Why is driving a Land Rover worth it for you❓
