Flash floods are unpredictable and can be deadly. Here’s everything you need to know to stay safe:

Avoid Floodwaters: Don’t drive through moving or standing water. As little as 15 cm (6 inches) can stall your car, and 30 cm (1 foot) can carry it away.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown: Always take an alternate route if you see flooding ahead.

Stay Informed: Keep track of weather updates and flood warnings. Delay non-essential travel if risks are high.

Stick to Higher Ground: Avoid low-lying areas, rivers, and streams, which are most prone to flooding.

Drive Safely: Turn off cruise control, reduce speed, and stay alert to avoid hydroplaning or losing control.

Avoid Bridges and Crossings: They can erode or collapse under flood conditions.

Don’t Drive at Night: Poor visibility makes it harder to gauge water depth or hazards.

Escape If Necessary: If trapped, abandon the vehicle and head to higher ground. Your life is more important than the car.
