We’ve always said that our biggest competition isn’t other professional vehicle tuners.

It’s the brothers-in-law, dentists and self-appointed tuning experts sitting around the braai after a couple of cold ones—armed with hearsay, half-truths and something their mate once told them.

Social media has given everyone an opinion, but an opinion isn’t the same as real-world experience.

One subject that attracts plenty of “expert” advice is dyno tuning. According to some, a vehicle cannot possibly be tuned properly without spending hours on a dyno. The reality—particularly with most modern vehicles—is far more nuanced.

So, when is a dyno genuinely necessary? When is it useful? And why is it unnecessary for most standard modern vehicles receiving a properly developed remap?

🔥 THE 2026 HILUX N90 HAS ARRIVED — AND BOOSTECH IS READY!

Toyota’s latest Hilux may feature a new generation of engine management, but once again, Boostech is already ahead of the curve.

Our Stage 2 calibration transforms the new 2.8 GD-6 from:

⚙️ Standard: 150 kW and 500 Nm
🚀 Stage 2: 190 kW and 650 Nm

That means considerably stronger acceleration, improved overtaking power and serious torque where a Hilux needs it most.

When every second counts, 100 km/h simply isn’t always enough.

These Toyota D-4D Quantums belong to a Namibian ambulance service. Like all Quantums of this generation, they leave the factory electronically limited to 100 km/h—something that can become a serious restriction during a life-or-death emergency, where the vehicles are legally permitted to travel faster.

THE MOST UNDERRATED GD-6? 🔥

The Toyota Fortuner 2.4 GD-6 is often overlooked in favour of the 2.8—but this engine deserves far more respect.

In standard form, it is exceptionally light on fuel, but with 110 kW and 400 Nm, it can feel underpowered compared with the 2.8—especially when overtaking, towing or carrying a full load.

After a properly developed Boostech remap, it becomes a completely different vehicle:

⚙️ Factory: 110 kW | 400 Nm
🔥 Stage 1: 140 kW | 480 Nm
🚀 Stage 2: 150 kW | 500 Nm

The result is stronger acceleration, effortless overtaking, far better low-down torque and a Fortuner that no longer feels like the “smaller-engine” option.

And the best part? When driven in the same manner, the additional torque means less throttle and fewer unnecessary gear changes—allowing this already economical engine to become even lighter on fuel.
