๐จ If you're planning to buy an EV in Malaysia, please read this.
From 1 July 2026, MITI is changing the rules for fully imported (CBU) EVs.
Two new minimums for any CBU EV brought in after that date:
CIF value (cost, insurance, freight): RM200,000
Power output: 180 kW, which is 245 PS
In simple numbers: most CBU EVs sold today below RM300,000 will no longer qualify. Once existing stock and cars already in transit are sold, those models stop coming in.
Likely affected models, still on sale today: BYD Dolphin, Atto 3, M6, Seal 6, MG4, GWM Ora Good Cat, iCaur 03, iCaur V23, MINI Cooper SE, Honda e:N1, Toyota bZ4X, Nissan Leaf, Leapmotor B10.
Likely to see prices rise sharply after July: BYD Seal, Sealion 7, Zeekr X, Xpeng G6, smart #1/ #3/ #5.
Locally assembled (CKD) EVs are not affected. That includes Proton eMas 5, Proton eMas 7, Volvo EX30 and Wuling Bingo.
If you already own an EV, this rule does not change your current car.
If you've been planning to buy, talk to your dealer about current stock and order timelines this week.
