Sometimes, it’s about luck.

No matter the price, or the quality, sometimes it boils down to luck. Things can fail even if made with the highest of quality.

This Audi RS3 8Y with a stage 2 setup was unfortunately the unlucky one. The final gear in the gearbox failed to withstand the torque and decided to break apart. The gearbox is known for handling high amounts of power and torque. But if you’re one of the low percentage of unlucky ones, there is a possibility of this happening.

The solution? You could either rebuild the gearbox by replacing the broken gears, or like this car, order a new one. After a 3 month wait, we finally managed to get the gearbox delivered and have it installed. Putting this car back on the road and a smile on the owner’s face.

Stage By Stage

If you’re new to modifying your car, or want to feel the change of each modification, doing a stage by stage tune might be the way to go. By doing that, you get to appreciate and feel the little differences in all the changes you make. Sometimes it’s about the journey not the destination.

A stage 1 setup usually consists of an air intake kit, a catback exhaust, and a stage 1 tune. For certain cars, this setup could make a substantial difference in power. This MK8 GTi also decided to add on a Bar-tek Turbo Muffler Delete. This little add-on helps to reduce turbulent air in the system. Smoothening out the airflow increases power by allowing more air to be pushed into the engine.

Feeling Restricted?

Restrictions are never good when it comes to increasing power. Reducing any restrictions helps to improve performance by allowing the engine to reach its full potential.

Ramair’s intake hose and turbo elbow reduces air flow restriction found in the stock components. Made out of silicone, the intake pipe has a constant diameter throughout its length. Ensuring smooth airflow entering the turbo. The turbo elbow has been oversized to increase the airflow volume.

With all these restrictions reduced, you can expect bigger gains from upgrading other components. Sometimes, it’s the smaller things that make a difference.

Front? Rear? Both?

A common brake upgrade kit is usually dedicated to the front brake system. But many often disregard upgrading the rear brakes. So should you even consider upgrading the rear and is it worth it?

If your front brake kit has a significant difference in performance to your stock calipers, then yes. They should be considered. Why? If your stock brakes were a 2 pot system and you’ve upgraded to a 6 pot system, the braking power increases in the front. But that causes an imbalance in the braking bias of the car.

Every car has a specific braking bias that keeps the car stable when braking at high speed. Upgrading the rear brake calipers to offset the imbalanced brake bias helps improve stability during braking with upgraded front calipers. Not only does it increase your braking power, but it also increases the safety of your braking system. Ensuring the proper brake bias is met to keep the car balanced. And it also looks cooler to have 2 calipers on 1 rotor. 1 for braking, 1 for the e-brake. Don’t you agree?
