BMW acquired MINI in 1996 and has owned it since then. MINI actually began, not as its own brand, but as model names for two different brands: the Austin Mini and Morris Mini. These brands were made by the same manufacturer: Leyland. MINI spun off as its own brand in 1969, and was later bought by BMW, which launched MINI Cooper in 2001.
While owned by BMW, MINI Cooper hatchbacks and other vehicles are produced by MINI, which still exists as its own entity.
The majority of MINI vehicles are produced in a contract plant in the Netherlands, though the largest MINI plant is in England.
Anyone who owns a MINI Cooper can tell you how much fun that vehicle is to drive. We make it easy for you to get behind the wheel of your next car.
