If synthetic oil is good for up to 10,000 miles why is it recommended to change the oil at 5000?
Mobil 1 says 10,000 miles on the bottle. I have gone 20,000 miles in a 2013 Wrangler with 83,000 miles. I have gone 25,000 miles in a 2003 Hummer H2 with 205,000 miles. Mobil has no incentive to boast about high mileage… they sell less oil. If Mobil says change the oil at 10,000 miles, my guess is their testing showed it would be good for 20,000 miles.

The oil filter is from a 1999 Chevy Express van with about 18,000 miles on the Mobil1 oil. The filter is still white in the middle where the oil goes back to the engine. I was amazed at seeing white filter fabric! The outside of the filter has a thin layer of black mushy stuff.
