You must prepare documents for yourself, your passengers and your vehicle while meeting Thailand’s insurance, immigration and customs rules. An expired driving licence does not always mean a Malaysian immediately loses access to subsidised RON95 under BUDI95. The answer depends on how long the licence has been expired. In an official clarification dated 26 March 2026, the Road Transport Department, or JPJ, said a Malaysian driving licence is still classified as active for BUDI95 purposes when it expired no more than 36 months ago. During this period, the licence holder remains eligible for BUDI95 and may renew the licence directly without taking an additional driving test.
