*Get to know your car engines*

*Engine block*
The block is the main part of the engine. All other parts of the motor are essentially bolted to it. Inside the block is where the magic happens, such as combustion.

*Pistons*
Pistons pump up and down as the spark plugs fire and the pistons compress the air/fuel mix. This reciprocating energy is converted to rotary motion and transferred to the tires by the transmission, via the driveshaft, to make them spin.

*Cylinder head*
The cylinder head is attached to the top of the block in order to seal the area to prevent the loss of gases. The spark plugs, valves and other parts are fitted to it.

*Crankshaft*
Located near the bottom of the engine block, this is the part that converts energy from reciprocating to rotary.

*Camshaft*
The camshaft opens and closes the valves in perfect timing with the rest of the parts.

*Valves*
The valves regulate the flow of air, fuel and exhaust fumes inside the cylinder head. There are both intake valves and exhaust valves.

*Oil pan*
The oil pan, also known as the oil sump, is attached to the bottom of the engine and stores all the oil used in the lubrication of the engine.

Regularly check whether your break system is working efficiently to avoid getting into an accident. It is important to make checking your break fluid a habit. Change the brake fluid once it becomes dark, for that means that the fluid is filled with rubber. Take note to replace your break system every two years.

📢2. Regularly check your tire pressure
Checking your tire pressure on a regular basis is not only lets you have comfort when driving but can also make your car’s life last longer. When checking your tire pressure, you can use a gauge in case your car does not have tire pressure monitoring system.

📢3. Check the engine coolant level
Given that heat is generated whenever your car moves. It is essential not to disregard checking the engine coolant level as the hoses used in transporting the coolant level can become susceptible to being damaged if they carry high-pressure fluid. Good thing to know, car these days come with a translucent coolant reservoir which allows you to determine the coolant level whitout opening the reservoir lid.

📢4. Replace the wipers
Dirt can build up on the windshield and when it is not cleaned off, your visibility while driving will be reduced which sometimes leads to an accident.

Situation 1: Your Rental Car Has a Problem, but You Can Drive It

You must contact your car rental company if you have a problem with your rental car. Your contract requires you to do so. The inconvenience of trading your original car for one that runs properly is a small matter compared to the difficulties of dealing with charges related to a breach of contract. Typically, you will be told to drive the car to the nearest airport or car rental office so you can trade it for another vehicle.

However, if you know you will be held responsible for a minor, fixable problem, it might be easier and cheaper to pay for the repair yourself (which you would have to pay for anyway) and continue with your trip.

Situation 2: Your Rental Car Cannot Be Driven

If your rental car's oil light comes on or a major system fails, stop the car, call for help and wait for assistance to arrive. Do your best to get to a safe place, but do not continue driving if you know that doing so will damage the car. Call your car rental company and tell them what your surroundings are like.

One more thing. Never pay for an expensive local repair unless your car rental company has authorized you to do so. Always get authorization for repairs, towing, and rental car exchanges.
