German luxury car manufacturer has taken a new step to implement layoffs in its administrative staff. According to sources close to the company, employees who have been working for a long time are being offered severance payments exceeding 500,000 euros (approximately 20 million liras) to leave .
According to a report by Handelsblatt, a 55-year-old team leader with 30 years of experience and a gross monthly salary of 9,000 euros is expected to receive over 500,000 euros in compensation. Similarly, a 45-year-old manager with 20 years of experience and a monthly salary of 7,500 euros is set to receive more than 300,000 euros.
Mercedes-Benz had previously announced its goal to save 5 billion euros by 2027. Due to the job guarantee valid until the end of 2034, are protected from forced layoffs. As a result, the company has to offer attractive financial incentives to reduce its workforce under the cost-saving program.
A Mercedes-Benz spokesperson stated in Stuttgart that the company does not disclose details about the severance package to the public, emphasizing: “Mercedes-Benz is aware of its responsibility towards its employees. We are acting in a socially fair and responsible manner.”
Through the company’s internal intranet system, employees can access preliminary information regarding their potential severance pay. However, Mercedes-Benz has not yet disclosed how many employees are expected to accept this offer.
