5 Diesel Engine Care Tips You Must Know | Isuzu D-Max Malaysia
Diesel engines are known for their impressive power and torque while using less fuel. Compared to gasoline engines, they are more durable. However, it's crucial to keep up with maintenance. Regular maintenance is key to making sure your diesel engine lasts a long time.
Discover these five essential tips for taking care of your diesel engine. They will make sure your pickup truck keeps going strong and smooth for way more miles.
📌 Changing Diesel Engine Oil: For diesel engines running at high temperatures, oil changes are a must. Regular checks and replacements maintain efficiency. Neglecting oil changes blocks heat transfer, harming cooling. Change every 6 months/10,000 km. If heavy driving or towing, change more often.
📌 Check Your Filters: Take care of your vehicle by inspecting and changing diesel fuel filters. Remember to change the oil filter every time you change the oil.
Also, don't overlook air filters that gather dirt from the car engine's operation. Neglecting them impacts performance and fuel efficiency. Change air filters every 10,000 to 15,000 km or every 12 to 18 months, depending on conditions.
📌 Inspect Your Engine Coolant: Coolant care is vital, like oil changes. An engine's cooling system relies on coolant, however, over time, the coolant can turn acidic, leading to significant problems. Be sure to change the coolant filter, refill the system with every oil change, and test twice yearly, change every two years. Ensure the coolant meets manufacturer's specifications.
📌 Draining the Water Separators: Draining water and dirt from diesel engines is crucial. Diesel fuel gets dirtier than gasoline, causing corrosion. Diesel vehicles use water separators and filters that remove water before it harms the engine.
📌 Prevent Turbocharger Failures: When you start your car, oil flows to the turbocharger. Let your car idle for a few minutes before driving. This lets engine oil reach the turbocharger. Avoid flooring the accelerator right after starting.
