“You may have all the reason…
but I’m still right.”
I realize many bosses have this mindset.
Including myself before.
Because we suffered before.
We built the company from nothing.
We slept lesser than others.
We sacrificed more than others.
So inside our mind, we will think:
“I already did this before.”
“I already got result before.”
“I eat more salt than you eat rice.”
Then whenever staff give ideas,
our Little Voice will come out.
“No… last time I tried already.”
“No… this won’t work.”
“You guys don’t understand.”
Slowly…
we stop listening.
Not because we are bad people.
But because our past result made us addicted to being right.
But one thing I realize recently…
Your old path,
may not be today’s path anymore.
Last time market can.
Now maybe cannot.
Last time people accept.
Now maybe different generation already.
Last time hard work alone can survive.
Now systems, leadership and communication matter more.
Experience is important.
But experience also can become ego.
Especially when there is already a word called “maybe”.
If there is a “maybe”…
why must we die die insist we are right?
Sometimes the company stuck not because staff no capability.
It is because the boss cannot let go of being right.
Real leadership is not:
“I must win every discussion.”
Real leadership is:
“I’m willing to see what I cannot see.”
Sometimes…
the thing blocking company growth,
is the boss own Little Voice.
