KUMHO SHINES IN LATEST EUROPEAN
SUMMER TIRE TESTS
One of Kumho Tire’s latest high-performance patterns, the ECSTA HS52, received a ‘GOOD’ rating in the recent test of summer tires by the highly respected German motoring association ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club). HS52 beat 42 rival 205/55R16 V sized products to finish eighth overall out of 50.
In commemoration of its 50th anniversary of tire testing and recognising the increasing significance of environmental and sustainability issues, the ADAC created a new scoring structure for this year that allocated 30 per cent of the marks under the heading of ‘environmental balance’ (tire wear, efficiency, noise and sustainability), and 70 per cent in connection with ‘driving safety’ (dry road performance, wet road performance).
Featuring an innovative high-grip tread compound, asymmetric tread design and 3D interlocking sipes, HS52 offers superior braking on wet and dry surfaces, improved wet grip and increased mileage when compared to its award-winning predecessor, the HS51.
The ECSTA PS71 also accorded a ‘GOOD’ rating
In a second, equally important test carried out by the internationally renowned magazine Auto Bild, Kumho’s ECSTA PS71 was placed joint fifth out of 20 finalists in a shoot-out of 225/45R18 summer products, in which it was also awarded a coveted ‘GOOD’ rating. The testers commended it for its balanced high-performance potential, good handling characteristics and short braking distances in both wet and dry conditions.
The asymmetrically-patterned PS71 was one of the first major products to be developed at the company’s R&D Centre at Yongin near Seoul, South Korea, and has been designed for outstanding high-speed stability and strong wet weather performance.
