Sat , 9AM - 4PM 1940-1950-----Syarikat Ban Chuan Seng in Victoria Street, Penang was run by brothers Tan Ewe Huat,Tan Ewe Seng and Tan Ewe Keat. They were exporting commodities ,mainly betelnuts to Indonesia and other neighbouring countries. Then came the confrontation between Malaya and Indonesia .As business and political relations
hips were strained ,the brothers diverged to the financing of motor vehicles.
1960-----In Penang and the neighbouring states, the use of motor vehicles over vast distances that separated major towns and cities was high, creating a demand for imported cars. In 1968, Ewe Seng and Ewe Keat established Ewe Lee Company in Gladstone Road, to deal in motor vehicles. A joint venture in the running of taxis was also formed together with Gladstone Motors. Gladstone Road was situated on the present KOMTAR site.
1970-----While the term "Made In Japan" didn't always appeal to Malaysian public ,Japanese cars certainly offered what Malaysian were after, especially in the way of standard equipment, very attractive prices and reliability. When Ewe Seng passed away, Ewe Keat took sole proprietorship and expanded by renting no. 326 Jalan Dato Kramat.
1980-----With the reasoning that as long as there are new cars, there will always be used car, Ewe Keat and his children formed Ewlee Motor Company Sdn Bhd. In 1985 to tap the potential in the used car trade. No.324 Jalan Dato Kramat was also rented up and subsequently No. 328 was acquired in 1989. A piece of land , No.425 Jalan Dato Kramat was later acquired.
1990-----Through sheer determination, Tan Ewe Keat built the company based on honest and hardworking principles. Maintaining this strong philosophy has made Ewlee Motor, from one of the pioneers into one of the leading motor traders in Penang.
2000-----In 2006, we changed the outlook and concept of the building, and with the new image, to take us into the new MILLENNIUM. It is also to dedicate the building in honour of our founder, mentor and father.
