One question I am often asked is 'What is the difference between car detailer/valeting and Paint Correction specialist'?.

My answer is always 'There is a big difference between a 'detailer and paint correction technician'.. They are worlds apart and here is the reason why....

When you have your car detailed by a professional detailer his/her job will mainly focus on making your car look clean and shiny. Detailing will often consist of a full body wash/wax, full interior decontamination and upholstery/carpet cleaning, engine bay cleaning, windows, trunk, alloy wheels cleaned, tyres dressed and on some occasions they will apply a consumer grade wax or sealant made especially for the 'Do it yourself enthusiast'

A Paint Correction technician will only specialise in paint restoration and correction. He will use a variety of dedicated machine polishers and compound product combinations to safely remove defects such as swirl marks, etching, scratches, oxidation, orange peel, overspray waterspots ect. He will be trained to perform the correct paint surface chemical decontamination process in preparation for the application and installation of the more advanced proffesional/industrial grade ceramic coatings and will certainly never use consumer do it yourself products which are of a lesser quality. A full vehicle paint correction can take between 2-3 days to complete depending on the condition of the paintwork. A specialist is trained to properly install proffesional/industrial grade ceramic coatings and carrys a higher degree of difficulty which requires more expertise. It takes more time, skill, knowledge and incurs higher product cost to perform proper correction work.

Here at Reflections Auto Paint Correction services every vehicle I work on is considered special and treated as such. But there are occasions when I get to work on something really special and this 4.2 litre Jaguar XK is one of those vehicles. This beautiful car was born in 2008 and is currently under restoration which is nearly complete. As part of the ongoing build the owner wanted to keep the original OEM factory paint and I was asked if I could restore the paint or at least make it look the best it could be. Oxidation, swirl marks and waterspot had already started to infect the paint making it look dull, resulting in the loss of shine/gloss. This can be clearly seen in the first video footage before the machine polishing process. Using a combination of compounds and polishers to remove the imperfections I managed to achieve a safe and respectable 80%-85% defect removal to restore the shine and gloss back to this fantastic 14 year old beast of a car . The final results speak for themselves and I hope you enjoy the videos as much as I enjoyed working on this car..

This 2010 Mercedes is now looking the best it can be and the beauty is this particular vehicle still has the original from factory OEM German paintwork. From a paint correction technicians perspective these are the best quality clearcoats to work on and in this instance rare when you consider this Merc is now 12 years old.

This 2021 Jaguar F Pace needed minor paint correction to remove some light swirl marks and micro marring often caused during regular maintenance washes. Regardless of how careful you are when washing your vehicle, the soft clearcoat can be prone to light damage, however the installation of a quality Ceramic Coating will help reduce this common problem. Using a medium cut compound and polishing pad the defects were completely removed followed by the application of the IGL Quartz ceramic paint protection coating. Absolutely love this color, looks even better with the increased depth of shine and gloss which is one of the best characteristics of this coating. This 2016 Metallic black Renault Duster came in for our single stage paint correction system and now the transformation is complete. As the name suggests this particular paint correction system utilizes just one stage of machine polishing considered as a one-step polishing procedure. The final results of a one-step machine polish will be determined by the current condition of your paint, level of defects (swirl marks, waterspots, oxidation ect) to be removed and more importantly the quality of the vehicle clearcoat. This is the ideal paint correction system for what I call your 'daily drivers', in essence cars you drive everyday and you want to breath new life back into the paint at a reasonable price. The installation of a proffesional grade ceramic coating will take a minimum of 2 days to install and certainly not 4 hours or one day. Each coating application needs at least 2 to 5 hours to cure before applying a second layer and 2 coats should always be applied. The coating should be applied in a workshop environment and not open air. Unfortunately there are a lot of cheap ceramic coatings on the market being advertised as professional grade coatings which can make it difficult and confusing for you when deciding which one to choose.

SO MY ADVICE TO YOU IS...

* Always make sure the person INSTALLING a professional Grade ceramic coating is a certified and trained technician.

* Ask to see the ceramic coating product you have chosen so you know what is being used.

* it is disappointing to see more and more business advertising the ceramic coatings they use as professional grade coatings and claim it will give 3 to 4 years protection to your vehicle. THIS IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE!

* A proffesional grade 3 to 5 year Ceramic coating should only be installed by trained, certified technician who will follow the manufacture application guidelines.

* Do your online research about the coating you are going to have installed and read the reviews. After all YOUR GOING TO SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY SO WHY NOT SPEND SOME TIME DOING SOME RESEARCH.
