Steps to Detect a Power Leak and Avoid Battery Discharge Problems
1️⃣ Vehicle Preparation
Turn off the engine, remove keys, lock doors, and disconnect any electronic devices.
2️⃣ Set up the Multimeter
Switch to DC mode and select the highest ampere scale for accurate readings.
3️⃣ Disconnect the Negative Battery Cable
Use a wrench to disconnect the negative cable and avoid contact with metal parts.
4️⃣ Connect the Multimeter
Attach black probe to the negative terminal and red probe to the disconnected cable.
5️⃣ Read the Multimeter
Check for current draw. Normal should be under 50 milliamperes—higher means a power leak.
6️⃣ Identify the Problem Circuit
Remove fuses one at a time; a significant drop points to the faulty circuit.
7️⃣ Troubleshoot
Check the faulty circuit for damaged components or loose connections, and repair as needed.
