Forestry and logging market analysis 📈

The Asia-Pacific region dominates the forestry and logging market and will continue to surpass its dominance trend until 2028 due to a large number of consumers in developing countries, as well as growing demand from residential construction.

👉🏻 North America is one of the fastest growing regions and will record the highest CAGR during the forecast period due to improved logging practices such as harvester/forwarder systems, cable collection systems and helicopter logging.

🌳 The forestry and logging market also features individual market influencing factors and domestic market regulation changes that affect current and future market trends.

📈 Data points such as consumption volumes, production sites and volumes, import-export analysis, price trend analysis, raw material cost, downstream and upstream value chain analysis are some of the main indicators used to predict the market scenario for individual countries.

😷 Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the global forestry and logging market is estimated to be US$190,340 million in 2022 and is projected to have an adjusted size of US$242,230 million by 2028 at a CAGR of 4.1% over reporting period.

The gradual recovery of the market is expected to continue in 2022-2028.

☝🏻 In general, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the wood market in different ways. In some European countries - especially in Germany and Scandinavia - the construction market was buoyant, which was good for the sawmill industry.

In the UK and southern European countries, where the first wave of the virus was stronger and strict restrictions were put in place, local construction markets and the economy as a whole were hit much harder, which also had a negative impact on the softwood market.

❔ How to proceed? What to expect by 2028? Will the predictions come true?

Capital will continue to flow into forest industry manufacturing in the US South 🌳

Even before the US Department of Defense announced it was doubling import duties on Canada's sawn softwood, capital was pouring heavily into southern forest products. But things were not always so brilliant.

🌲 Between 2007 and 2017, three pulp and paper mills, three chipboard mills, 36 pine sawmills and 66 hardwood sawmills were closed permanently in the region, resulting in a loss of approximately 1.7–2 .0 billion board feet (BBF) annual lumber capacity.

🏭 As housing construction in the US gradually gained momentum, the lumber industry in the South responded accordingly. It has been a long and slow process, but in 2017, SYP's lumber production was 18 billion board feet (BBF), or about a third of North America's total production.

👉🏻 By the end of 2020, an additional 3 BBF of new SYP lumber was installed through several new mills.

What to expect in 2022? Record prices and factory profitability? Or a process slowdown? Find out at the European Wood Summit!
