Experiencing a "Check Engine" light? Don't panic! 💡
Here's a quick breakdown of what actually happens and how you can diagnose the issue:
What Happens When the Light Comes On:
Sensor Fault: A sensor (like the oxygen sensor) detects an issue, such as high emissions.
ECU Detects Problem: The Engine Computer Unit (ECU) receives the signal and stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).
Light On: The dashboard light illuminates to alert you.

Limp Mode (Sometimes): For serious issues, the ECU may reduce engine power to protect the engine.
Quick Diagnosis Steps:
Scan for Codes: Use an OBD2 scanner to read the specific DTC (e.g., P0301).
Check the Faulty System: The code points you to the problem area (sensor, wiring, spark plug, loose gas cap, etc.).
Repair & Clear Code: Fix the issue, then clear the code and recheck.
Tips to Remember:
The light itself doesn't tell you the problem; the code does!
Don't ignore it—it can worsen or damage the engine.
A loose gas cap is a very common & simple fix!
