Heat-resistant spray paint is a silicone-based coating designed to withstand extreme temperatures, typically 400 to 800C without blistering, peeling, or flaking. It is ideal for automotive parts like silencers, exhaust manifolds, engine blocks, and brake components, as well as household items like barbecues, wood stoves, and fireplace inserts
How to use...
1. Surface Preparation
- Clean: Remove all dirt, grease, oil, and wax using a degreaser or mineral spirits.
Remove Rust: Use a wire brush or fine-grit sandpaper to strip away any rust or flaking old paint.
- Dry & Smooth: Wipe the surface clean and let it dry completely. No primer is typically needed, as most high-heat paints go directly onto bare metal.
2. Application
- Shake Thoroughly: Vigorously shake the aerosol can for at least 2 minutes until you hear the mixing ball rattle freely.
- Spray Distance: Hold the can about 8 to 12 inches (20-30 cm) away from the surface.
- Thin Coats: Apply light, even coats rather than one heavy layer to prevent dripping or running.
- Recoat Window: Apply your second coat after the first has dried to the touch (usually 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the brand).
3. The Curing Process
-Heat-resistant paint relies on heat to fully harden, cure, and bond to the metal.
-Initial Dry: Allow the painted surface to air-dry for at least 1 to 2 hours before exposing it to heat.
-Heat Curing: Follow the manufacturer's specific instructions to cure the paint. A standard method is to operate the equipment (e.g., turn on the BBQ or idle the engine) at a moderate temperature (around 150C to 180C) for about 30 to 60 minutes
