V2 Porsche 996 M96 Intake Installed
3D printed in carbon Nylon and fitted.
Must say it certainly looks fantastic.

Have been out for a drive and have a direct comparison against the previous V1 intake.

As last time installed some thermocouples to see what the temperatures are doing and the results are very interesting.
As no new feed has been made for the additional right hand side feed I was expecting super high air intake temps from that side.

With ambient temperatures of 18.5 DegC at normal cruising speeds (40-60mph), intake temperature was +5-6 DegC on the left which is lower than the stock intake ever managed.
On the right hand side without any feed it's + 11-12 DegC over ambient. Was expecting much higher.
Once the feed is made into the lid it's going to be the same as the left side.

As for the difference in driving experience:
Was expecting a loss of low end torque with the much shorter intake tube (very similar to GT3) in exchange for better top end.
There is a noticeable difference in how the engine feels.
It has sharper throttle response, heel and toe / rev matching easier, low end feels stronger. Pulls effortlessly to the red line. An improvement on the previous design which was a definite improvement over stock.

It sounds very different. Smoother and louder. That's expected with the additional feed though. It's huskier and has a distinctly louder midrange and especially top end bark.

Next step - back to the dyno for some comparison runs and getting the second feed in with a custom made rubber connecter for the seal.

Dyno test of the first prototype for the Porsche 996 C4S 2002 6 Speed Manual

Car has 41,000 miles with a clear bore scope check and all sensors working within specifications.
Road driving data shows intake temperatures to be +6-10 degC above ambient on both OEM and Infinity Intake.

On the dyno unfortunately the intake temps were + 30degC over ambient which is far from ideal. Our average intake temperatures were 42 degC.

Peak figures were 262whp stock and 273whp with the intake.

Results are that our intake gained 3-11 Wheel HP between 5200-7000rpm.
Around 2-4 hp at around 4500rpm.

The intake also lost around 3-12hp between 2500-3400rpm (900rpm range)

Correction factor remained at 0.99 for both tests and ambient temps were just up by 1.5 DegC for the testing of our intake.

The results are genuine as this is not your normal phase shift type of difference with the power curves remaining the same in some areas, losing in others and gaining in others.

What is conclusive is that the factory airbox is restrictive at the higher rpm's.
With the wheel power figures converted to flywheel power, there is a tangible gain of around 13-15hp which is a significant amount.

We will be re testing tomorrow but this time on a Maha Dyno with specialist cooling just for Porsches to see what happens with normal intake temperatures.

We will be further testing some different shaped inlet tubes as the current one may be too aggressive and slowing down air speed at the lower rpm's.

Dyno Results of our Carbon Plenum with the larger velocity stacks on a Dynojet Dyno.

We used our Intake system with the OEM plenum as the base run to give the OEM plenum the best chance to make power as it’s larger and more free flowing than the stock system as proven many times.

Performed 3 runs

Carbon Plenum was installed , 3 runs performed.

Unexpectedly we have gained 3-7 whp between 5800-6400rpm and 5-10 whp between 6800rpm - 8250rpm

The plenum is slightly larger but this we would not consider to make any difference.

What is different is the velocity stacks which are both longer and significantly larger at the opening.

We believe this to be a genuine gain as there is no gain below 5500rpm and a change in graph shape. This isn’t a phase shifted dyno gain.

The dyno cell here is extremely cold and well ventilated with excellent extraction.

Both tests carried out with bonnet closed

Porsche 996 intake prototype 3D printed in carbon nylon for road testing and fitment.

Airbox is fitted with oem style pins for the lower oem grommets and frontal bracket.

Significantly larger snorkel.

Initial test drive on our low mileage C4S gives normal idle, excellent low speed drivability and a very full midrange under partial load .
Under full load engine does seem to be more alive at the higher rpms.

Throttle feels more direct.

Datalogging next and trying different inlet tubes
