🔧 Ford Cortina Pinto 2.0L – Head Gasket Replacement

This Ford Cortina equipped with the 2.0L Pinto engine came in with symptoms of head gasket failure — overheating and coolant loss.

“Boost was strong… oil pressure wasn’t.”

This forged 4G63 engine came to us for tuning with a noticeable rattling sound from the bottom end.

Before proceeding with any calibration work, our team at Enso Tec Tuners recommended a full mechanical inspection. Performance tuning should never begin unless the engine’s mechanical condition is verified.

After removing and stripping the engine, we identified severe internal damage caused by low oil pressure.

🔎 Findings:
• Crankshaft journals heavily scored and damaged
• Main and rod bearings worn down (copper exposed)
• Connecting rod big-end side worn excessively
• Metallic debris circulated through the oil system
• Piston skirts and cylinder bore damaged due to contamination

⚠️ Root Cause:

Loss of oil pressure led to oil film failure.
This resulted in metal-to-metal contact, bearing material breakdown, and debris spreading throughout the engine.

In high-performance forged builds, correct oil pressure and clearance control are critical. Once lubrication fails, damage progresses rapidly.

🛑 Our Approach:

We did not proceed with tuning.
Instead, we removed the engine and advised a full bottom-end rebuild assessment.
