โ ๏ธ๐ณ Does your car shake at idle, stall, or take too long to respond when you accelerate?
Many drivers think that when the engine vibrates or shuts off at a traffic light, the problem is always in the spark plugs, ignition coils, or injectors, but a very common cause is a dirty throttle body. This part controls the amount of air entering the engine, and if the throttle plate gets covered with carbon, oil, or dust, the computer may have trouble keeping the idle stable.
Over time, oil vapors from the PCV system, dust passing through the intake, and combustion residue can form a black layer around the throttle plate. That dirt reduces airflow, changes the actual closed position, and can make the ECU overcompensate or undercompensate. That is why the engine may feel unstable even when there is no serious internal failure.
A contaminated throttle body can cause irregular airflow, a carbon-covered throttle plate can stick or fail to close properly, a TPS sensor can send an incorrect position signal, and a damaged gasket can allow false air to enter after the throttle body.
The most common symptoms include RPMs going up and down, engine shaking at idle, stalling when stopping, slow acceleration, light jerking, increased fuel consumption, hard starting, and the feeling that the engine wants to shut off when turning on the air conditioning. In some vehicles, the Check Engine light may also turn on, or codes related to idle, air-fuel mixture, or throttle position may appear.
The important thing is not to clean this part carelessly. On electronic throttle bodies, you should not force the throttle plate abruptly or use aggressive chemicals on sensors or electrical parts. An idle relearn may also be necessary after cleaning because the computer had adapted to working with the accumulated dirt.
