How Knight Rider Predicted the Future?
Knight Rider is an American action crime drama television series created and produced by Glen A. Larson and first aired in 1982 and originally broadcasted on NBC , and followed later in 2008.
Autonomous driving: The car would scan what was happening around it to make sure it reacted quickly. The car was known as K.I.T.T(Knight Industries Three Thousand) which through its auto collision avoidance technology was able to avoid crashes and ensure maximum safety. Auto collision detection technology is a widely implemented safety feature. In today’s era, autonomous driving is now possible big automotive companies like tesla.
Anamorphic equalizer: Perhaps Kitt's most distinctive feature was the red bar of light that would ebb and flow on the front of the car. It allowed Kitt, and therefore Knight, to see in X-ray vision or infra-red. Renowned brands such as Mercedes Benz have fitted some of their higher-end vehicles with technology that allows the driver to see better in the dark (other than, obviously, turning on lights).
Hybrid-Hydrogen powered car: In the "Knight Rider" television show, which starred Hasselhoff, his supercar KITT had a hydrogen turbo motor which allowed it to chase bad guys at over 300 miles an hour. Hydrogen is now becoming a cleaner energy source for modern vehicles as it accounts for zero emissions therefore a sustainable alternative fuel for future transportation. KITT was so sophisticated that it allowed a mixture of fuel including petrol and now we have cars such as Nissan leaf, Toyota Prius, Hyundai Sonata, Lexus LS 600h etc.Hyundai aims to develop hydrogen fuel commercial vehicles by 2028.
Medical scanner: one of the first futuristic features we're shown on Knight Rider is Kitt's ability to detect Knight's vital signs. Step forward Ford, with its ECG Heart Rate Monitoring Seat. Six embedded sensors are able to monitor vital signs and detect whether a driver is, for example, having a heart attack.
Nanotechnology: Knight Rider series features a car that embraces nanotechnology to change colors and morph into similar car forms temporarily KITT's nano-skin program, allowing the vehicle to effectively transform into different vehicles rather than previous morphing ability to that was limited to different versions of a Ford Mustang. BMW introduced it's ‘GINA Light Visionary Model’. The car has a flexible outer skin, making some elements of the substructure moveable.
Facial Recognition: KITT had the ability to find people, access to government databases, realtime surveillance. The South Korean automaker Hyundai , the GV 60, the first electric sports utility vehicle from Hyundai Motor’s premium brand Genesis, will include a new facial recognition system
Artificial Intelligence: KITT is essentially an advanced supercomputer on wheels. The "brain" of KITT is the Knight 2000 microprocessor which is the centre of a "self-aware" cybernetic logic module that allowed KITT to think, learn, communicate and interact with humans. Tesla is set to begin building humanoid Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered robot assistants designed to "eliminate dangerous, repetitive and boring tasks."Tesla is set to unveil a new humanoid robot, called Optimus, in late September, 2022.In the meantime, the Mercedes Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system remains one of the leaders in in-car voice assistance. The arrival of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant ensures there is always a genuine BMW professional on board.
Adaptive Cruise Control: In auto cruise mode, , KITT could drive himself utilizing an advanced Auto Collision Avoidance System. It is now evident that adaptive cruise control is seen in Audi, BMW, Volvo, Ford, Honda, Tesla, Chrysler, Hyundai, Toyota etc.
