Pauline Wangari Ngoi, 24, was a prison warder at Murang'a GK Prison. She lived alone in Kiharu estate and was found dead on Wednesday after missing two days of work. Colleagues forced open her door and found her body on the bed, already decomposing, with dried blood on the sheets. The scene suggested death had occurred two nights earlier, on Monday.

Someone had staged it to look like su***de, placing a knife in her hand and bhang between her lips. But her wounds pointed to strangulation followed by stabbing, not self harm.

CCTV footage showed a man entering her home around 9 p.m. Monday: Joseph Otieno Ochieng, 23, a mechanic from Nairobi. He and Pauline had been talking on Facebook for weeks and were meeting for the first time. They smoked bhang and had s*x, then an argument broke out. Accounts differ on the cause, either her refusal of harder drugs or a dispute after she told him she was a prison officer. The fight turned violent. He strangled her, then stabbed her repeatedly.

Before leaving, he staged the scene and took her television, a bag, and her phone, all captured on camera around 3 a.m.

A friend recognized him from the footage at DCI offices. Peterson Njiru, Pauline's boyfriend, was initially arrested and later released once the real suspect was identified. Ochieng was caught Thursday at a roadblock in Kericho County, traveling with two others toward Kisumu. He confessed to the full sequence of events, and the stolen items were recovered.

Pauline was buried on May 21st in Naishi village, Njoro. Her mother said she would never see her daughter smile again. Ochieng was charged with murder under the Penal Code, and bail was denied.

A 4-year-old boy living in North Carolina, whose father left him without warning, stood outside every single day for months waving at strangers, just hoping somebody would say hello back.

And because both families genuinely wanted the relationship to work, they organised a family meeting on August 4. During the meeting, they came to the conclusion that perhaps the couple’s problems could be solved if Patrick and Jackline started living together permanently.

But what they may not have realised is that you cannot stop diarrhoea with your finger. In other words, moving two people into the same house does not automatically solve the problems that already exist between them. Sometimes, it can even bring those problems closer together.

A HOUSE HELP FROM HELL? 💔 For Sylvester Musyoka Mutua, Thursday, August 6, will forever remain one of the darkest days of his life.

For months, Sylvester had been raising his three children alone while his wife worked abroad. The children, 8-year-old Zanellah Ndunge and six-year-old twins John Waydens and Zoella Hellen Mbatha—were living with him in Kawangware, Nairobi.

On February 1, Sylvester hired a house help, Maureen Asiko Omboto, to assist with housework and take care of the children as he focused on his demanding job.

But last Thursday, everything changed.

Sylvester returned home from work in the evening and was met by a terrifying silence. The house was empty.

His three children and the house help were nowhere to be found.

He immediately raised the alarm, and together with neighbours, began searching for the children. The search continued late into the night, but there was no sign of them.

Now, a week later, the children are still missing, while the house help is reportedly unreachable on phone.

Zanellah is a Grade 3 pupil at Faith Cathedral Academy, while the six-year-old twins also attend the same school in Kawangware.

For a parent, there can hardly be a greater nightmare than coming home to find your children gone.

Sylvester is reportedly devastated. He cannot concentrate on work, cannot sleep, and continues holding on to the hope that his children will be found safe.

🇰🇪🇺🇸 Kenyan-Born Woman’s 2018 Crash Case Ends With Insanity Ruling in the US

The case of Win Gikonyo, a Kenyan-born immigrant living in Washington State, has highlighted the complex intersection of mental illness and criminal responsibility.

Gikonyo, who was 26 at the time, was described as outwardly independent and financially stable, while privately struggling with severe psychiatric problems. According to her attorney, she had a history of mental health hospitalizations but had stopped taking her prescribed medication.

On April 18, 2018, Gikonyo experienced an acute psychotic episode involving auditory and visual hallucinations. Believing she was being pursued, she drove a Hyundai Elantra at speeds exceeding 100 mph (161 km/h) through Tacoma.

Near 84th Street and McKinley Avenue, she attempted to pass traffic and crashed into a Toyota Prius driven by 60-year-old Marianne Burton, a pizza delivery worker. Burton died at the scene.

Police initially suspected intoxication, but toxicology tests found no alcohol or drugs in Gikonyo’s system. The case subsequently focused on her mental state at the time of the crash.

On May 14, 2019, Gikonyo pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. After reviewing evidence from defense experts and state psychologists, Judge Frank Cuthbertson ruled that she did not understand the nature and quality of her actions at the time of the crash because of severe psychosis.

The court therefore accepted the insanity plea, meaning she was not criminally convicted of vehicular homicide. However, the ruling did not mean she was released. She was transferred to the state mental health system, where she could remain committed for as long as authorities determine that she poses a danger to herself or others.

The victim’s family strongly opposed the insanity ruling, arguing that Gikonyo’s ability to maintain employment and purchase a new vehicle demonstrated that she was functioning normally and should be held criminally responsible.
