In Kenya, trailers (semi-trailers and drawbar trailers) are registered separately from the trucks that pull them.
Their registration numbers always begin with the letter “Z” — e.g., ZH 5481, ZC 1234, etc.
The “Z” series is reserved exclusively for trailers by the NTSA (National Transport and Safety Authority).
The reason is administrative: the towing truck (tractor head) and the trailer are two different vehicles, each with its own logbook, ownership, and insurance.
Example: A prime mover could be KDG 123A, while the attached trailer could be ZH 5481
