We’re proud to serve our U.S. Military community here in Japan, and one thing we will always stress is: be careful when a deal looks too good to be true. At auction or out in town for sale, sometimes things are not what they seem. A simple detail, a service & perfume inside and you think you got a deal?
Japan has experienced some major flooding, and flood-damaged vehicles can make their way back onto the market.
This 2017 Daihatsu Cast is a perfect real-world example.
It was originally presented with a 4.5 auction grade — something that would normally suggest a very nice vehicle.
However, the auction house identified its flood history and corrected the vehicle’s evaluation accordingly.
💴 Seller asking: ¥450,000
🔨 Highest bid: just ¥146,000
❌ UNSOLD
That huge difference tells its own story.
A shiny exterior, low mileage and an attractive price don’t always mean you’re getting a bargain. What you can’t immediately see can be far more important than what you can.
