It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing yesterday of our President and founding member Hilary P Jardine, fondly known as Sir Hilary. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, loved ones as well all in the Jamaican and Caribbean Motor Racing Community who knew him.

From our first meeting at CALICO in the early 1970s and throughout our time birthing the Jamaica Motor Racing Association (JMRA), I saw the love and passion that Hilary had for our sport. His drive and determination were unrelenting even when faced with seemingly insurmountable odds.

From our early events at the National Stadium and our beginnings at Vernam Field in 1971, he worked tirelessly to ensure that the competitors and the spectators were both entertained and secure.

He later served as President of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club from 2006 to 2011. In recognition of his contribution to sport, the Government of Jamaica awarded Hilary Jardine the Order of Distinction in 2009.

His presence will be greatly missed.

Ride High my friend.
