You guessed it! August’s classic is a 1959 Austin Metropolitan, the most summery car there could be, it even looks as though it should be floating in the sea!

The Metropolitan 1500 came in five duotone colors, Berkshire Green, Sunburst Yellow, Mardi Gras Red, Autumn Yellow and Classic Black, all duotoned with Frost White and a houndstooth check interior. Such a stylish car that even Princess Margaret had one in the 1960’s, a classic black with green leather upholstery that became known as the “Royal Runabout”.

Our Metropolitan is in the showroom for the month, all are welcome to come and see it.

Topolino refurb story ~ And here it is finished in classic turquoise. Sandblasted, primed, assessed one final time, then into the oven. The paintwork was carried out by our highly skilled and experienced painter Richard Thomas, and the colour is classic FIAT turquoise, applied with the precision and care Richard brings to every vehicle that comes through the bodyshop.

The owner arranged for the seats to be reupholstered in a fabric that deserves a mention of its own. A striped turquoise, white and bright orange cloth with the feel of a vintage deckchair, made by a tailor in the Algarve. This car is filled with beautifully made details.

After we completed our work in the bodyshop the owners decided to ship the Topolino to the UK where an electric engine was installed. Seventy four years old and running cleaner than most modern cars on the road today!

And here’s the finished car, from Kenny, Chris, Richard and the team at our bodyshop, parts from Switzerland, a boot remade in Madeira, upholstery from the Algarve. No expense spared and no corners cut. The Topolino is now on display for the rest of this week in our showroom as part of our centenary celebrations, on loan from its very proud owner. Come in and see it, it’s GORGEOUS! And if you've got a project of your own sitting in a garage somewhere, you know where we are!

Topolino refurb story ~ Here it is stripped to its bones with the chassis separated from shell and nothing hiding anymore! This is where Kenny Cabral and the team are in their element.

The original chassis badge is a little piece of the car history, to preserve the car history properly the team sourced parts from wherever in the world they could be found. Some parts came from Switzerland, either salvaged from other Topolinos or remade specifically for this one. The boot area was remade entirely in Madeira. We went global to find the right person to make the parts. That's the standard this restoration was held to throughout, wait till you see the interior upholstery! You can see the car in our showroom window for the rest of the week to see how different it looks today.
