From 18th to 20th September 2026, the Norwegian Roads Museum near Lillehammer will host the Fifth FIVA Pan-European Conference for Automotive History.

Organised by FIVA in cooperation with the Norwegian Federation for Historic Vehicles (LMK), the conference will bring together historians, researchers, museum professionals, authors, collectors and enthusiasts for three days dedicated to automotive history, heritage and international exchange.

The programme will feature 13 speakers from 10 countries, exploring topics ranging from pioneering engineering and national vehicle industries to motorcycle history, electric mobility, historic rallies and some lesser-known chapters of motoring heritage. The conference will be moderated by Steve Berry, British motoring journalist, broadcaster and former Top Gear presenter, bringing his extensive experience and lifelong passion for automotive and motorcycle history to the event.

One of the true highlights of Monterey Car Week is the Concorso Italiano. Renown as the premier gathering of the best of Italian vehicular design and engineering, it serves to highlight Italian motoring heritage. Set against the scenic background of the Monterey Peninsula, the showcase features a broad array of Italian vintage, classic and modern vehicles with a separate category titled “Global Exotics” which also celebrates distinctive cars from around the world.

Held on the 15th of August, the 2026 edition, the 41st to be held, is believed to have yielded the largest field ever with over 600 registered vehicles. The diversity of the vehicles on display was exemplified by the incredible Maserati that won Best of Show: a 1959 Maserati 3500 GT Bertone owned by Jim Utaski of Skillman, New Jersey, a one-off of immense historical interest.

The beautiful and unique cars and motorcycles on display truly stood out and the event was further enhanced by the Italian spirit of ‘La Dolce Vita’ as evidenced by the Italian cuisine, fashion, art and live music which was prevalent across the event. Further complementing this environment was the broad cross section of participants and guests ranging from enthusiasts to industry leaders and renown collectors.

The 2026 edition of the Concorso Italiano also highlighted two milestone celebrations, namely the 60th Anniversary of the iconic Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto and the legendary motorcycle manufacturer Ducati which is celebrating its centenary.

FIVA President Alberto Scuro was one of the key guests of the event and provided a short speech where he was joined by the Hon. Massimo Camelos, Consul General of Italy in San Francisco. President Scuro was on hand to witness the induction of FIVA United States representative Donald Osborne to the Concorso Italiano Hall of Fame where he was presented the ‘La Bella Macchina Award’ in recognition and appreciation of his contribution to the continuing passion of automobiles. The award was presented by former event Chairman Tom McDowell and past recipient Monica Zanetti, aka ‘Lady F40’, the first woman to work as both mechanic and coachbuilder for Ferrari. Ms. Zanetti is also the co-founder of the Automotive Women Association (‘AWA’) a non-profit organization based in Modena, Italy comprised of female professionals involved in the automotive industry. Through its initiatives and training activities, AWA is dedicated to building a future in which women become more deeply involved and play a greater role in the innovation and development of the automotive industry.

Adolfo Orsi, who has served as the Chief Judge of the FIVA Awards at the Pebble Beach Concours since their inception in 1999, was also on hand to receive the Doug Magnon Award, presented to him by Andrea Soriani, General Manager of Maserati of North America. The award is presented in celebration of those who embody Doug Magnon’s legacy, the owner of one of the largest Maserati collections in the world and in recognition of those who generously share their knowledge and experience.

FIVA President Scuro lauded Concorso Italiano President Tanya Kosta for the outstanding level that she has elevated this remarkable event within the community, pointing to the fact that the AWA selected her as its first Honorary Member in recognition of her dedication to promoting automotive culture and celebrating Italian heritage.

According to President Scuro, “while the Concorso Italiano has emerged as a true bridge between Italian automotive heritage and the enthusiasts who congregate each year to enjoy the beauty of the vehicles and the ambience of the event, the recognition of Ms. Kosta by the AWA serves as a microcosm of a truly inspiring commitment, both to the automotive world and to the wider community.”

Following FIVA President Alberto Scuro’s participation as a panel member at the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum on the 13th of August in the panel “Committing to Passion: Restoration, Experience, and the Business of Collectible Cars”, FIVA was again strongly represented in a second Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum discussion held on the 14th of August dedicated to FIVA and its presence at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, titled “FIVA & the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance - Celebrating Living History in Automobiles”.

The fact that this forum took place concomitant with the 75th gathering of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the 60th Anniversary of FIVA was truly unique as the panel explored the impact of how the alignment between FIVA and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has led to a literal sea change approach to the collection of vehicles around the world and their implications for the future of the historic vehicle world.

Moderated by Donald Osborne, FIVA Representative for North America, and attended by FIVA President Alberto Scuro, the discussion explored a broad range of issues ranging fromoriginality and preservation to the responsibility of caring for automobiles as an important part of our cultural heritage.

The discussion was made all the more distinctive by the unique composition of the panel as highlighted by the presence of Adolfo Orsi, who has served as the Chief Judge of the FIVA Awards at the Pebble Beach Concours since their inception in 1999; Jay Leno, internationally acclaimed television host, author, philanthropist and renown collector who is also an inductee into the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame; Paul Russel, famed automotive restorer and Concours judge and rounded out by master restorer and renown television personality Wayne Carini who also frequently serves as either a judge or Grand Marshal at leading automotive events across the world. It bears mention that Carini will be shortly launching a new series about unique cars and their owners.

Each Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum is curated to inspire, inform and entertain as the panelists bring forth not only their unique and vast experience, but also their perspectives. Accordingly, the success of this forum can be best summed up referring to its very premise, namely: “The most long-established organization for the protection, preservation, and promotion of the historic vehicles, the Federation Internationale des Vehicules Anciens (FIVA), came together with the world’s pre-eminent concours event, the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance, in 1999 to celebrate originality and preservation in historic vehicles outside of museums. This partnership has served to educate collectors, restorers, enthusiasts, and the public about the importance of caring for and sharing historic vehicles as a part of cultural heritage”.

On the 14th of August, FIVA President Alberto Scuro, spent the morning at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion held at the WeatherTech Raceway in Laguna Seca, meeting entrants and experiencing the paddock among numerous extraordinary examples of motorsport heritage.

The Reunion brought historic competition cars back to the environment for which they were created: the racetrack. From legendary sports and touring cars to prototypes and single-seaters, the event once again demonstrated the extraordinary value of keeping motorsport history active, accessible and alive.

On this special day, President Scuro was joined by Marialaura Luraghi, granddaughter of the renown Giuseppe Luraghi, former President of Alfa Romeo.
According to President Scuro, “it is incredibly fascinating to experience during Motor Week, events that belong to the same automotive world and yet are so profoundly different. On the one hand, the sophistication and exclusivity of Pebble Beach, on the other hand the very different atmosphere of Laguna Seca, where passion is lived in a much more immediate and dynamic way, with the paddock full of enthusiasts working side by side with the mechanics to fine tune their cars before taking them on one of the most iconic racetracks in the United States.”

During the visit, Scuro had the opportunity to meet and discuss with a broad and diverse array of enthusiasts with different backgrounds ranging from Gregor Fisken, famed historic racer and one of the few Le Mans competitors to have competed in all four classes together with noted collector, racer, photographer and founder of the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Bill Warner, as well as Ray Everham Jr., former crew chief for NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon and an inductee in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of North America. In all the discussions, the common theme encompassed FIVA’s future activities in the United States and, more broadly, its role in the world of historic motorsport. According to Scuro, in light of the diverse backgrounds of the gentlemen, “it was a welcome opportunity to receive very different expressions and feedback of the same passion, and, for precisely for this reason, an extraordinary opportunity to experience automotive heritage in all its richness and diversity.”

The Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum held on the 13th of August, 2026 offered an important opportunity for FIVA to engage in an open and constructive dialogue with leading professional stakeholders across the historic vehicle sector. The topic of the forum, “Committing to Passion: Restoration, Experience, and the Business of Collectible Cars”, inspired a unique debate as to how historic vehicles are far more than beautiful machines: they are living pieces of our cultural heritage, carrying stories, craftsmanship, engineering, passion and memories from one generation to the next.

Represented by FIVA President Alberto Scuro who partook as a member of the panel, he parlayed the fact that FIVA’ s mission is to protect, protect, preserve and promote historic vehicles and their heritage globally. However, he also highlighted the fact that achieving such a mission requires dialogue, and cooperation across the entire ecosystem, including manufacturers, collectors, restorers, specialists, businesses, institutions, and the wider historic vehicle community.
At Pebble Beach, this shared responsibility was particularly evident.

The forum discussions addressed some of the key challenges facing the historic vehicle sector, the regulatory environment, environmental sustainability and the crucial need to engage younger generations. No doubt, these are complex issues with no single or simple solution, but President Scuro highlighted that a common understanding of the challenges allows for the identification of priorities and the possibility to explore practical solutions that can be pursued consistently and collaboratively.

What was clearly evident during the forum was the clear willingness of different stakeholders to work together despite their different identifies, responsibilities and interests. Such a spirit of cooperation is essential.
The historic vehicle world is built on extraordinary values, heritage, authenticity craftsmanship, knowledge and passion. As FIVA marks its 60th Anniversary and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance celebrates its 75th gathering, the conversation could not be more timely as the objective of all stakeholders should be ensure that historic vehicles remain not only preserved, but also relevant, accessible and alive for future generations.

The future of automotive heritage depends on the strength of the dialogue we create today.

FIVA has been at the heart of one of the world’s most important celebrations of automotive heritage: the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The day began with the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex, where FIVA Representatives for the United States, Donald Osborne and Mark Gessler, took part in the inspection of participating cars ahead of the Tour. This follows Donald Osborne being feted at Piazza Motor Nights and his participation in the ACE Forum Speaker series together with Wayne Carini in the preceding days.

More than 150 remarkable automobiles took to the road, following the spectacular route through 17-Mile Drive and along Highway 1 towards Big Sur.

It was a powerful expression of one of FIVA’s core beliefs: historic vehicles are not simply objects to be admired, but living examples of our shared cultural, social and technical heritage.

The programme also brought FIVA into the conversation at the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum, where Alberto Scuro participated in the session “Committing to Passion: Restoration, Experience, and the Business of Collectible Cars”, contributing FIVA’s perspective on preservation, restoration, collecting and the evolving historic vehicle movement.

Two legends of the collector car world took the stage in Monterey. 🏁

The ACE Forum, “One Stage. Two Legends,” brought together Donald Osborne, FIVA Representative for the United States and co-host of Jay Leno’s Garage, and Wayne Carini, master restorer, collector and host of Chasing Classic Cars, for an intimate conversation moderated by Nic Waller, President of the Audrain Group.

Two extraordinary careers. Decades of experience. Countless remarkable cars and even more remarkable stories.

From automotive history and collecting to restoration, discovery and the passion of using historic vehicles that keeps our motoring heritage alive, the conversation offered a fascinating glimpse into the world behind some of the most cherished historic automobiles and the experience of interacting with the people they have encountered throughout their careers.

The ACE Forum was a wonderful celebration of that living heritage and a reminder of why sharing these stories with future generations matters so much.

On August 10, FIVA Representative for the United States and renowned automotive historian, author and television personality, Donald Osborne was feted at a special VIP reception held in his honor at Piazza Motor Nights during the start of Monterey Car Week.

It was a truly memorable evening, bringing together enthusiasts, collectors, industry professionals and friends of the historic vehicle movement in celebration of automotive heritage and culture.

During this truly special evening, guests had the opportunity to meet Donald and obtain a signed copy of his acclaimed bi-lingual book “Stile Transatlantico / Transatlantic Style: A Romance of Fins and Chrome”, a fascinating exploration of the post war creative exchange and design cross pollination between Italy and America.

The success of the event underscored the celebration of not only exceptional vehicles, but also the people, stories and shared passion that colleagues like Donald, a true ambassador for FIVA, strive to preserve.

A heartfelt thank you to Piazza Motor Nights, the organisers, partners, collaborators and everyone who joined to make this evening such a memorable success. Events like this remind us of the importance of bringing the international historic vehicle community together, sharing knowledge, celebrating our heritage and looking towards its future.

In a small and very special gathering at Peter W. Mullin’s home in Oxnard, California, on June 24, FIVA had the honour of inducting the late Peter Mullin into the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame, at the kind invitation of his widow, Merle.

It was much more than a ceremony. It was a heartfelt celebration of a man whose passion for historic vehicles touched so many lives around the world.

Peter Mullin was a true ambassador for automotive heritage. A passionate Bugatti enthusiast, collector, rally driver and supporter of historic motoring, he dedicated much of his life to preserving and sharing the beauty, history and stories behind exceptional automobiles.

Through the Mullin Automotive Museum, which he founded in 2010, Peter created a unique tribute to French automotive excellence, with an extraordinary collection of Bugattis and other important French cars from the early 20th century. His approach to preservation was equally remarkable: some cars were beautifully restored and driven, while others were intentionally left unrestored, allowing their originality and history to speak for themselves.

Peter’s influence extended far beyond his own collection. He supported events and organisations around the world, including the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and played an important role in the rebuilding and relaunch of the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

But perhaps the most touching part of the ceremony was hearing Merle share stories of their life together in the historic vehicle world, including their many rallies, with Merle behind the wheel and Peter navigating.

Those memories reminded everyone present that historic vehicles are not only about cars. They are about people, friendships, passion, adventures and stories that are passed from one generation to the next.

Peter Mullin was one of the most respected figures in our community. He is deeply missed, but his passion and legacy continue to inspire us.

FIVA is honoured to welcome Peter W. Mullin into the Heritage Hall of Fame.

Rest in peace, Peter.
Your legacy will continue to drive us forward.
