🏛️ FIVA strengthens dialogue with European institutions

On 1 July 2026, FIVA representatives met with Members of the European Parliament and the European Commission in Brussels to discuss the future of historic vehicles within European legislation and cultural policy.

The meetings focused on key topics including:
✔️ The implementation of the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation, which now includes specific safeguards for historic vehicles and their parts.
✔️ The ongoing discussions surrounding the Roadworthiness Package, while confirming that the European definition of a historic vehicle remains unchanged.
✔️ The recognition of historic vehicles as an integral part of Europe’s shared cultural heritage within the European Commission’s future Culture Compass for Europe.

During the visit, FIVA President Alberto Scuro reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to constructive dialogue with European institutions, while discussions with the European Commission also explored how historic vehicles contribute to sustainable tourism, local economies, education, and cultural heritage.

Through its advocacy work, FIVA continues to ensure that the voice of the historic vehicle community is represented where important decisions are made.

🏆 Jay Leno Inducted to the FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame

Jay Leno, legendary television host and automotive enthusiast was officially inducted into the prestigious FIVA Heritage Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Los Angeles at the Broad Arrow Auctions / Hagerty Garage + Social on June 23, 2026.

🏅 This prestigious honour, awarded by the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (‘FIVA’), recognises individuals who have made a lasting impact on automotive heritage.

🚗 🎬 Mr. Leno is the ideal exemplar of the Heritage Hall of Fame as evidenced by his promotion of an accessible, educational public experience through his media platforms for more than 15 years where he champions historic vehicle preservation, legislative advocacy for owner rights and trade education for the next generation of restorers.

🏛️ FIVA President Alberto Scuro who awarded the FIVA Hall of Fame trophy to Mr. Leno, drew upon the parallels that exist between FIVA and Mr. Leno’s legislative advocacy, pointing out that both Mr. Leno and FIVA promote and protect not only the preservation, but also the responsible use of historic vehicles and young timers (vehicles between 20 and 30 years old) on public roads for the benefit of their owners, enthusiasts and the general public.

🤝 Joining FIVA in the ceremony were Donald W. Osborne and Mark Gessler, the FIVA representatives for the United States who have undertaken the launch of Friends of FIVA USA. During the ceremony, Donald Osborne highlighted the fact that Friends of FIVA USA would serve to link the greater historic vehicle enthusiast community in the United States with FIVA, a global organization that is now celebrating its sixtieth year of achievement and experience.

🔹 Mark Gessler highlighted the benefits and workings of the FIVA ID Card and how working collaboratively with organizations, entities and individuals in the United States to identify how the FIVA Technical Code could be used and combined with existing collector car evaluation and documenting programs. Gessler then handed over a FIVA ID Card to Mr. Leno for his 1930 Duesenberg Model J - LeBaron ‘Barrelside’ Phaeton which had been scrutineered by FIVA.

The ceremony, attended by key representatives of important marque and model clubs in the United States, as well as other organizations, such as museums and the media, ended with a lively question and answer session and all in attendance were invited to continue the discussion on how FIVA might collaborate with their efforts. 🚘👏

🏍️ Day 3 of the FIVA World Motorcycle Rally was the longest ride of the event, covering nearly 200 km through the breathtaking landscapes of South Bohemia.

A scenic route winding through lakes, forests and wild nature led participants to one of the day’s highlights: the remarkable American Car Museum in Nová Bystřice, home to an impressive collection of iconic marques including Lincoln, Cadillac, Ford and many others. 🚗

Before lunch, participants planted trees, symbolising the commitment of the historic vehicle community to environmental responsibility and the preservation of heritage for future generations. 🌳

🏍️ 🇨🇿 Day 2 of the FIVA World Motorcycle Rally delivered a perfect blend of emotion, passion, heritage and discovery.

The colourful caravan of motorcycles, spanning nearly eight decades of motoring history—from the 1920s to the 1990s—brought smiles wherever it passed. Along the route, enthusiastic greetings from local communities and schoolchildren made the riders feel especially welcome.

Crossing the beautiful South Bohemian countryside under blue skies, participants first stopped at the Veteran Museum in Jílovice, home to a fascinating collection of historic vehicles and artefacts, many of them from Eastern Europe. A welcome coffee break offered the perfect opportunity to admire the exhibits and share stories.

The journey then continued to the elegant Nové Hrady Castle, where lunch was served in a magnificent garden surrounded by Renaissance charm.

The afternoon brought one of the rally’s most memorable sections: winding roads through dense forests leading to the Sanctuary of Dobrá Voda. The steep climbs tested some of the oldest machines in the field, but thanks to the efficiency and dedication of the support team, every challenge was successfully overcome.

The day concluded with a true gem: a visit to the spectacular Hluboká Castle, one of the most beautiful landmarks in the Czech Republic and a fairytale setting in the heart of South Bohemia.

With another unforgettable day behind them, participants are now eagerly anticipating tomorrow’s longest stage of the rally.

Ettore Bugatti’s genius extended far beyond the automotive world.

Sylvain Vernerey, Directeur Général of the Cité du Train together with Timo Vuortio, FIVA Director Utilitarian Vehicles, present the remarkable 1934 Bugatti railcar, a pioneering vehicle that brought Bugatti’s expertise in performance, aerodynamics, comfort, and innovation to the railway industry.

With its futuristic aerodynamic design, reversible passenger seats and central driving position allowing operation in both directions without changing cabins, this railcar anticipated many concepts that would later define modern high-speed trains. Nearly a century later, it still stands out as a unique example of visionary engineering and mobility heritage.

FIVA Joins in Celebrating World Environment Day 2026 🌍🌱

The 5th of June of each year marks the celebration of World Environment Day, a day which serves to promote awareness and encourages action for the protection of the environment. 🌿

As the primary outreach day of the United Nations for the support of the environment, FIVA is proud to join and lend its support to this global platform. 🤝🌎

With the celebration of its 60th Anniversary, FIVA continues to directly address the balance between enjoyment and responsibility with respect to the environment. 🎉⚖️🌱

The total environmental impact of historical vehicles is extremely low, as evidenced by the fact that the use of historic vehicles on public roads is equivalent to only 0.07% of the distance travelled by modern vehicles. 🚗📊

Notwithstanding these figures, through its technical commission and ANF’s, FIVA continues to tackle and evaluate new technologies such as alternative fuels, green tech and responsible restoration practices to keep historic vehicles on the road, in order to ensure environmental compatibility without compromising authenticity. ⚙️🔋♻️

FIVA also leads by example. The FIVA-ASI Green Dream Team works promotes the message of sustainability and environmental protection and compatibility with historic vehicles by using bio-fuel powered historic vehicles in events and rallies. 🌱🚘🌍

As FIVA crosses the threshold of its sixtieth year since its founding, FIVA is not resting on its laurels. Together with our ANF’s, FIVA will continue to work and set the stage for continuing to achieve and maintain the balance between enjoyment and responsibility with a view towards the next sixty years. 🚀⚖️🌿

We encourage you, whether you are an ANF, national member, FIVA partners or even a historic vehicle enthusiast or a concerned citizen, to provide us your feedback on what initiatives you are following and your views on the compatibility of historic vehicles and the environment. 💬🌍🤝
