Ferrari 512 BB — Engine Restoration
At the heart of the Ferrari 512 BB lies one of Maranello’s most distinctive engines: the 4.9-litre, 180-degree V12, an architecture derived from Ferrari’s experience with flat-12 racing engines and a defining element of the Berlinetta Boxer lineage.
Restoring such an engine requires far more than simply replacing worn components.
Following complete disassembly, every critical component is carefully inspected, cleaned and measured. Cylinder bores, pistons, crankshaft journals, connecting rods, bearing clearances, valve guides and seats are checked against the correct tolerances to establish the true condition of the engine before any machining or rebuilding begins.
Each measurement determines the next step. Components that can be preserved are restored and retained; those outside specification are repaired or replaced. Particular attention is given to dimensional accuracy, surface finishes, clearances and the correct assembly of every internal component.
The objective is not to reinvent the original engine, but to restore its mechanical integrity, performance and character with the level of precision such an important piece of Ferrari engineering deserves.
