Piero Fornasetti (1913–1988) was one of the most eclectic and brilliant Italian designers of the twentieth century: a painter, decorator, art printer, and tireless inventor of images who turned everyday objects into poetic works suspended between art and craftsmanship.

In 1982, at his father’s request, Barnaba Fornasetti returned to Milan from Tuscany to join him in the atelier. The first result of their renewed collaboration was a singular project: the decoration of a Ford Granada Station Wagon, adorned with the architectural motifs typical of Fornasetti’s visual language.

As Barnaba later recalled:
“I bought the vehicle secondhand in the early ’80s, and one day my father and I found ourselves looking at it sitting outside our shop on Via Brera. Immediately, we thought it’d be fun to customize the sides with the same motifs we used on our showroom curtains. The result was the example which was later exhibited at Triennale. We call it l’Archivettura — a play on words combining architecture and automobile.”

Thus was born “Archivettura”, a unique manifesto work that blends automobile and art, function and fantasy.

Today, this extraordinary Ford Granada “Archivettura” — a one-of-a-kind testimony to the shared creative universe of Piero and Barnaba Fornasetti — is offered for sale exclusively via Obsessive Car Disorder by Motoring Attitude.
