ON THIS DAY IN SHELBY AMERICAN HISTORY — SEPTEMBER 15, 1964

On September 15, 1964, Cobra CSX2570 was billed to Shelby American and began its journey across the Atlantic to California.

A late-production 289 Cobra, CSX2570 was finished in the striking combination of Princess Blue over a red interior and featured the rack-and-pinion steering found on the later 289 Cobras.

But its story was just beginning.

After final assembly by Shelby American in California, CSX2570 was selected as an official Shelby American display car for the 1965 New York Auto Show, putting one of Carroll Shelby’s legendary Cobras in front of thousands of spectators.

More than six decades later, cars like CSX2570 remind us why preserving the individual histories of these automobiles matters.
