While I treat this page as my brain’s dustbin and post a lot of bulls**t compiled in words, I want to write something sincere.
I love Porsche. It’s easily my favourite car manufacturing company. I have countless magazines, diecasts, and I try to write about these cars every chance I get. It’s safe to say that, down the line I would love to own a 911. But this lifelong obsession honestly started when I was a mere child in a small town in Napoli called Sant’ Antimo, where I spent most of my adolescence.
My father was a car guy but he was a busy man. While he never actually took me to car meets per say, he never missed a chance to chase a sports car when he ran his errands with me in his Fiat Panda. He would often miss a few turns just so that I could see the car for a bit longer and it kept me entertained.
There was this huge warehouse he used to go to when he was running his own business to restock on stuff and he never skipped a chance to take me there. Being a small town, there were not many sports cars around but right at the opposite of that warehouse, there was a showroom with mundane cars and one Porsche, now that I know the specifics, a blue 986 Boxter S which was really exciting to see when I was 8 or 9. I always used to point it out to him and every time without skipping a beat, he used to be genuinely excited to see it and used to tell me that the roof can be opened in those cars. On the way back home, he used to ask what kind of car I would like to own one day and I would always coin the idea of getting one of those.
I wouldn’t be half the man if my father was not around. He always had spare change when I wanted to buy a magazine with a cool car on the cover, and used to always bring home random car toys whenever he got the chance. He gave me the assurance that someday I would be able to own a sports car and in my honest opinion, if I ever get one, it would be to honour my dad.
I never looked up to anyone, I still don’t see another human being as an example of how I want to be in life. But I honour the valour my dad left in my heart, and I always will.
