Honestly, I can't remember the last time I used an airbrush to blend tones and simulate weathering on vehicles. Back when I dabbled in military models, there were no limits to the weathering techniques used. In this instance, it’s nothing major—just a blend between German Grey and German Red-Brown—but I think the effect turned out well, even if I don't quite have the touch I used to.

The more I looked at the little Ferrari 6-cylinder turbo, the less I could bring myself to like its appearance. It was too grainy, too gold—just too much of everything. I bead-blasted it again and changed the shade to a brighter, more metallic titanium gold. It’s not quite the perfection I’m aiming for, but it’s certainly more pleasing to the eye. Now it just needs a bit of depth, which I’ll add with a neutral wash. The front section is nearly finished, and I think it’s a real shame that so much of it will only be partially visible.

I’ve spent my entire modeling life searching for the best paint to render metal realistically. My paint drawers are packed with jars of metallic paints in every conceivable shade and tone. Ultimately, I realized that the best finish comes from the metal itself. I discovered that treating the material properly—brushing, polishing, bead-blasting, and so on—yields realistic results. For tonal variations, I find "washes" to be the most satisfying solution; applying very light, diluted layers—letting them dry in between—creates a highly convincing sense of depth and authenticity. I make a conscious effort to avoid paintwork that makes details look "toy-like" or out of scale; I find that sort of thing off-putting. I employed this technique on the 126CK’s turbo six-cylinder engine and the Porsche 12-cylinder unit. To my eye, it really captures the scale effectively—even if my photo exposure wasn't quite right.😂

Dry fit. No glue was needed for the dry fit; all the parts fit together perfectly thanks to Tameo's excellent workmanship and the strategic placement of locating pins. The kit is truly well-made, though unfortunately, very little of this work will be visible in the end. It is a real shame; it would have been a great idea to design the kit with opening panels to showcase this magnificent mechanical detail. Now we can begin the painting stage.

Today's agenda: preparing the bodywork for the Ferrari 126CK. I could have skipped opening up the rear air intakes, but I always find these openings too shallow on any kit I work on. Tameo kits feature very fine, realistic parts, but I’m a fanatic with incurable mental quirks, so I always have to go overboard. Apparently, though, my clients appreciate these obsessions. Naturally, soldering the engine assembly components together was a nerve-wracking process, but everything seems to be in order. I’ve fitted the side panels with pins to make both painting and final assembly easier, requiring only a minimal amount of glue once painted. I find the kit truly excellent and user-friendly, with proportions that faithfully capture the lines of Gilles' car.

Today is September 1st, and we can declare summer over, along with the holiday spirit that keeps us away from work, at least in our hearts. However, I haven't sat idly by, giving in to the lure of good weather. Here I am, answering those who were wondering what happened to the Porsche 917s, with images of the bodies ready for the painting phase, and with the model with opening doors that will have to undergo the challenging work on the door hinges. This required significant refinement of the rebates and the contours of the openings. There must be no obvious gaps, and they must take into account the paint thickness. I can't wait to put the final touches to this project, which required the study of new techniques and work on the kit that I can now call radical. But that's the beauty of the game.

The table is tidied up, the tools are put away. Any work in progress is put away in its containers. The lights are turned off and the work area is cleaned. Now I'm finally off for a week. See you in ten days, don't run away.😊
