Every year, our offsite group photo gets a little harder to take 📸

This year we headed to Porlezza, on Lake Lugano, and once again the photographer had to take a few steps back to fit everyone in.

They call it a problem. We call it the most honest KPI we've got. Every new face in that shot is someone who chose to bet on where robotic manufacturing is heading, and chose to do it with us. Hard not to take that as a compliment.

Two days of great food, long hours at the spa, and more sports than we can count, all played way more competitively than anyone will admit. Then came the team challenge, with some very unconventional tasks that revealed a few hidden talents we never saw coming. The photos stay with us, though. What happens at the offsite stays at the offsite 🤫

We also raised a glass to another year of milestones, big and small. We earned that one 🥂
Back at it now, with the year's final stretch ahead and plenty still to ship!

JOME Engineering LLC scanned a marine propeller and printed a working replacement in metal on its Caracol's in Dubai. 🔍🚢

Thanks to production, lead time dropped by around 60% and cost by roughly 40% compared to casting.

The job came with no drawings, no CAD and no tooling. Every curve, the pitch, the way each blade blends into the hub existed only in the physical part, so it all had to be captured before anyone could reproduce the propeller.

That scan wasn't a one-off either. The team re-scanned at every stage of the build to check the geometry against the original and make sure enough stock was left to keep machining, which matters a lot on a twisted blade with barely any usable datum ⚙️

The SS316L propeller is now back in service, and JOME keeps its geometry on file, so if it gets damaged again the next one goes straight to print.

Last week our team was in Orlando for ASTM's 2026, with talks across several sessions 📍

Fabio Caltanissetta, Federica Tiso and Nils Niemeyer covered thermoplastics for large-scale construction and hybrid polymer-metal structures. On they went further, into the in-process monitoring that makes it reliable for structural steel.

We can go that deep because we own the whole stack. We build our technologies and , and write the software that runs them. Materials get characterized in our own labs, and that know-how goes to every team running our cells. That's the difference between selling a machine and running production. 🤖

Our view is simple. The factories that win the next decade will be smaller, robotic and close to where parts are needed. We already work that way for aerospace and marine customers, from the largest industrial site in Europe to our teams in Austin and Dubai. Parts get printed on demand instead of sitting in a crate crossing an ocean, and lead times drop by up to 95%. 📦

If your production is stuck waiting on parts, write to [email protected]. Our experts will start from your parts and your bottlenecks. 📩

🔩 Ask an engineer to picture metal 3D printing and you'll get the same image almost every time. A laser, a bed of powder, a sealed chamber, parts measured in microns.

That's the most famous way to do it. It's also why and keep getting underestimated.

Compared with powder bed, arc-based DED looks crude at first glance. Layers of 1 to 2 mm, a wavy surface you have to machine. Add the fact that laser DED built its reputation on cladding and repair, and the whole family ended up filed under "fixing worn parts."

DED is built for a different job: getting a big, heavy metal part without waiting months for a casting or a forging. Put it that way and powder bed drops out of the comparison. Foundries and billets come in.

Take the Mastiff suspension carrier that printed with our . 110 kg, load-bearing, lead time cut by up to half 🛡️

People expect the speed. What catches them off guard is everything after it. Depositing metal turns out to be the easy part. Keeping heat under control layer after layer, then qualifying the process so a part can go into service, that's where most of the work goes 🔥

Our full guide covers how DED works, what sets WAAM apart from the other variants, and where to start.

There's a moment where the part stops being a file. ✨
It runs this smoothly because the software knows the machine.

Eidos Builder turns the 3D file into a program for , planning the toolpath across 6+2 axes and checking it for collisions and singularities before anything moves. 🤖 Planar, non-planar or conformal, whatever the geometry asks for.

Print time and material consumption are known upfront. ⏱️ Then the job you just watched in simulation runs on the real machine. One continuous flow, from your PC to the shop floor. 💻➡️🏭

🐉 Themed entertainment doesn't need tooling anymore. Here's a 2.6 m dragon that proves it.

Dire Wolf Digital handed the original 3D model of the dragon from their game CLANK! 🎲 and asked for it as a physical centerpiece for their Gen Con booth in Indianapolis.

CID ran it through DFM, then printed it on Caracol's in PETG reinforced with glass fiber, 2 mm nozzle, around 60 kg of material. ⚡

The DFM pass wasn't only about printability. The sculpture had to be transported and reassembled more than once, and land in the same position every time. 🎯 So the geometry was split around how the finished piece would be handled and displayed, not by print envelope alone: six major sections, horns and delicate details printed separately, ultra-dense marine foam fill and a metal dowel alignment structure inside for repeatable registration between sections. 🔧

Three and a half weeks ⏱️ from start of production to a finished, painted 2.6 m sculpture. Traditional fabrication needs several more steps to reach the same point.

What would you build if tooling stopped being the bottleneck? 👇

Five days on the floor. One to go. 🏁
That's the crew up top, still standing at International Manufacturing Technology Show. 💪

The best conversations this week were the most unexpected. Someone describes a part and how they plan to make it, we suggest a route they hadn't considered, and you can watch the idea land. 💡 That happened a lot. It's the reason six days on your feet in Chicago is worth it.

We also got real time with people from the Caracol network we usually only see on a screen. 🤝 And a few evenings out on the water, which never makes it into the show recap but probably should. 🌊

If you haven't stopped by, tomorrow is it. Heron AM runs until 6 p.m. and the parts are all out where you can put your hands on them. 🖐️

Then the lights go down at McCormick Place. The work doesn't. Monday morning we're back at it, and that's the part we're proudest of. ⚙️

Still in Chicago? Come find us tomorrow. Already headed home? Our inbox is open: [email protected] 📬

We're live. 🚀 Day one at International Manufacturing Technology Show 2026, and Heron AM started printing at 10 this morning.
It doesn't stop until Saturday evening. ⏱️

Around the cell sit parts pulled from marine ⚓, aerospace ✈️, oil and gas 🛢️, automotive 🚗 and industrial floors 🏭. Every one of them printed. A few you'd swear came out of a traditional production line.

That's the point we came to to make: robotic additive next to CNC and finishing, inside a footprint you already have. Parts made where they're used and when you actually need them. ✅

So bring us a real part or need. 🔧 Tell us the volumes and the lead time you're fighting, and our engineers will tell you straight whether it's a fit for our technology or not. That conversation is worth more than any brochure we could hand you.

📍 Booth 237020, North Building Level 3, McCormick Place. Open 10 AM to 6 PM through Sept 19. 🕙
