dian market. The Volkswagen Pune Plant occupies a total area of over 2.3 million square metres (575 acres), with buildings covering about 1,15,000 square metres. The plant has a production capacity of 130,000 vehicles a year in the current two-shift system. The Volkswagen Pune Plant is one of the most modern plants in the Volkswagen Group worldwide. It has a high level of vertical integration and a large share of local suppliers. The facility is the only production plant operated by a German automaker in India that covers the entire production process, from press shop through body shop and paint shop to final assembly. Apart from catering to the Indian domestic automotive market, Volkswagen Pune Plant also exports to over 32 countries across three continents of Asia, Africa and North America. The export cars include right hand drive as well as left hand drive versions of the Polo and Vento manufactured at the facility.
