An article on our Wind2Water project : Upcycling end-of-life wind turbine blades into low-cost, modular catamaran hulls - by our Founder, Ravi J. Deka, has been published in the JEC Composites Magazine, January 2026 issue.
The process focuses on direct re-use rather than energy-intensive recycling, resulting in a solution that is genuinely low-cost, scalable, and among the lowest-carbon pathways available for composite waste. It captures the practical essence of the circular economy, not just the rhetoric, and has the capacity of modernising the coastal and inland water transportation of developing countries with safe affordable vessels.

The digital edition of the magazine is available on the JEC Composites website.

It's a rare honour for us to written about by a composite technology and materials expert of the stature of Ned Patton. A former Northrop Grumman engineer and a leading consultant in the field of composites, his blog is one of the most respect source of information and to learn about the latest technologies and developments in this sector.

, , , , , received my November Issue of the Composites World magazine (electronically of course) this week and as usual it had a couple of interesting developments in the world of composite materials sustainability, one of wh...

From Rammstein’s industrial-metal riffs and thunderous beats, shouting along “Deutschland, Deutschland über allen”, leaping into the rhythmic yet equally industrial pulses and synthesizer waves of Kraftwerk’s Die Mensch-Maschine, complete with robotic arm and shoulder movements, today we celebrate the most industrial and innovative nation on earth: Germany!
Why?
Because our Wind2Water project of converting discarded Wind turbine Blades into low-cost catamaran hulls for the inland waterways of poor and developing countries, has been featured in one of Germany’s top three boat publications, Boote Magazin! With a bilingual print and online presence and a monthly readership of 160,000, Boote stands as Europe’s largest motorboat-focused magazine, reaching a wide audience passionate about motor yachts and cutting-edge boating technology.

After slogging away for half a decade in a swamp-side shed in a forgotten corner of Northeast India, enduring the all-round apathy of local authorities, and now seeing our work featured in leading publications across the world.

From Belgium to the US, France, England, New Zealand, and finally Germany!Perhaps it’s finally time for us to sing along with the Scorpions:

“Take me to the magic of the moment
On a glory night
Where the children of tomorrow dream away
In the wind of change… The wind of change…”

It’s not so easy to impress the Kiwis! New Zealand is the David in the world of maritime innovations. Whether it’s the Hamilton Jet, the shark-like Seabreacher, the amphibious Sealegs, or Vessev’s electric hydrofoils, the island nation consistently punches above its weight.

And we’ve just discovered that Boating NZ — New Zealand’s leading boating magazine — has written about our work. To see Wind2Water — a project born in Assam — reaching readers on the far side of the world fills us with both wonder and reassurance.

It reminds us that Wind2Water was never meant to be just a proof-of-concept vessel. It is a philosophy: taking a material the world struggles to recycle — discarded wind turbine blades — and transforming it into safe, modern, efficient boats for riverside and coastal communities of the Global South.

The recognition is heartwarming, but what excites me most is the sense that we are truly on the right path.

International Boat Industry (IBI) has been a leading voice in the global leisure marine trade since 1968, tracking market trends, technologies and business developments across established and emerging boating markets.

With a bi-monthly print & digital circulation of around 29,000 professionals in more than 140 countries, and a daily newsletter reaching over 22,000 qualified marine industry executives, IBI remains a benchmark for serious marine business reporting.

IBI published an article on Wind2Water and our work upcycling wind turbine blades into catamarans. This isn’t about vanity or exposure —it’s about visibility where it counts.

Imagine our surprise when Marine Business—a leading British marine publication best known for showcasing luxury yachts and those gleaming white boats you see in films and music videos—featured our work.

We’re proud of this recognition. Yet it also leaves us wondering: why is it that abroad, people value our pioneering efforts, while here at home, in our own state and country, there’s little concern or interest?

This work isn’t about prestige—it’s about shaping the future for riparian, coastal, and deltaic communities, and safeguarding the environment we all share.

Akvotransiro Tech, an Indian startup based in Guwahati, has manufactured and tested a four-person catamaran built from discarded wind turbine blades using a technology named "Wind2Water", for which a patent is being considered. Extensively tested on Deepor Beel, near Guwahati, the prototype has prov...

What started as a CAD render turned into real trial rides over the course of five challenging months.
The journey wasn’t smooth: Just getting the blade sections to our workshop was an ordeal. Some transporters refused because of the size, others said the blades were too fragile, and those who agreed demanded exorbitant rates. It took nearly a month of persuasion before one finally agreed to move them.

When the blades arrived, they turned out to be tip sections, not the mid-section we had requested. Back to the drawing board.
To compensate for the lower buoyancy of the tips, we added hydrofoils for extra lift. For the framing and deck, we used bamboo composite boards and poles—pairing the world’s most sustainable plant with one of the most abundantly available, extremely strong fibreglass resource: decommissioned wind blades.
The outcome: our Proof-of-Concept 4-Pax Wind2Water Blade Catamaran.

Next up: trials with our in-house electric drive, marrying an unsinkable, upcycled vessel with clean, emission-free propulsion.
