KTM began in motorsports, competing in motocross racing. It first made an appearance at the International Six Days Trials (Enduro) in 1956 where it secured the gold medal. By the end of 2016, KTM had won more than 271 world championship titles, making the company the most successful brand in motorsports. With consecutive wins from 2001 to 2017 in Dakar Rally, KTM has dominated the rally for 16 years now. Racing continues to be a testing ground for production technology for its motorcycles.
