Having my base in Kolkata it's a long, arduous and at times monotonous drive to the Uttarakhand foothills then you climb the serpentine steep hills and brave on the nature... but beyond every point the body still holds on and the mind still concentrates...

And then suddenly across a bend a dhaba/ tea stall appears however rugged it might be. 15 mins stopover an you are rejuvenated for the next 10 hrs

As I have said earlier my type of vacation doesn't start at the State of the art airports or the swanky luxury trains. It starts on the ROAD and involves the countless dhabas serving tasty fresh foods. It's all about discovering a new India every 100 kms..

When you are driving Rafa into the remoteness of the Eastern most frontier of India you don't need to follow a set plan. Just detour, divert and drop anchor for the night anywhere you want. Here we have early morning breakfast in the midst of a flowing mountain stream after a night well spent in the huts.

Rafa has not just been a travel companion for me. Times when I needed to honour professional commitments in multiple locations on almost 1,500 km round trips from Kolkata and the Vande Bharats/ flights timings/ availability were an issue it was the trusted roads and jungles and rivers and hills over which we needed to traverse... In the end the journey just complimented the job.
