In 2017, Vaikom became the starting point of India’s solar-electric ferry revolution with Navalt’s first ADITYA. Today, the fifth Aditya-class solar ferry returns to where it all began, powering the Vaikom–Palakkari Tourism Boat Service.

A journey that began with innovation now drives sustainable tourism, cleaner mobility, and a greener future for Kerala’s waterways.

The first ADITYA was a beginning. The fifth is a legacy in motion.

What does the future of public transport on water look like?

For Navalt founder Sandith Thandasherry, it looks like Aditya - India’s first solar-electric ferry, built to move people without burning a drop fossil fuel.

A familiar boat. A new way to move

The CIAL Vembanad returns to the water with a new electric marine system engineered by Greenship.

Originally built in 2021, the vessel has now been upgraded with an 80 kWh, 96V LFP battery bank, 7.5 kVA solar PCU, new charger and redesigned DC panel bringing its propulsion and energy systems together as one integrated solution.

The vessel now begins a new chapter on the Veli–Kadinamkulam route, carrying 24 passengers across the waterways of Thiruvananthapuram.

For us, this project is about more than electrification.

From new builds to second lives, we engineer the transition to electric.

Electric water transport isn't just about technology. It’s about the impact it creates.

With 5 Marsel boats already in operation, more than 5 lakh passengers served, and over 2.4 lakh km travelled, electric mobility is becoming part of everyday water transport.

32.3 kL/year in fuel savings.
₹35 Lakh/year in money savings.
77.3 tonnes/year in CO₂ savings.

From innovation to impact.
