Hero MotoCorp showcased the Xoom 125R at the Bharat Mobility Expo, and as the suffix suggests, this will be Hero’s entrant in the premium 125cc scooter space. We got to have a close look at the scooter and it has quite a few details that stand out.
Beginning with the design, the Xoom 125R looks sporty and modern and showcases Hero’s new design language. We saw this with the introduction of the Xoom 110, and the upcoming Xoom 125R and Xoom 160 show the evolution of Hero’s design philosophies.
The sharp-looking front apron, with its integrated LED lights, sleek side, and tail sections lend a sporty air to the Xoom 125R’s appearance. The dual-tone colours are nicely executed and overall, the scooter looks quite appealing.
At the Expo, Hero also revealed the specifications of the near production-ready scooter. The Xoom 125R is powered by a 124.6cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that makes 9.4bhp at 7,500rpm and 10.16Nm at 6,000rpm. The engine is paired with a CVT and gets Hero’s i3S start/stop system to maximise fuel efficiency.
The feature list of the Xoom 125R on display indicates that the scooter will be pretty well-equipped. It gets all-LED lights with scroll-style turn indicators. The instrument cluster is fully digital with readouts for average fuel consumption and distance-to-empty, besides the usual tell-tale lights, speedo, and fuel gauge.
Then, there’s the added convenience of an external fuel filler cap, USB charging port, and storage under the seat as well inside two deep cavities behind the front apron.
The Xoom 125R has an underbone chassis, suspended by a telescopic fork and a monoschock. It rides on 14-inch wheels, a first in the 125cc scooter segment. As for the brakes, there’s a single disc at the front and a drum brake at the rear.
The Hero Xoom 125R is expected to be launched sometime towards the end of 2024 and we could possibly see Hero introduce it around the festive season. It will go up against the TVS Ntorq and the Suzuki Avenis.
