THE COLD WEATHER IS ON THE WAY................
“A vehicle check before the temperatures drop is a sensible way to avoid the inconvenience of being stranded out in the cold and with the unexpected expense of emergency repairs.”
ME2U AUTO SERVICES recommends the following nine steps for winterizing your vehicle.
Have the battery and charging system checked for optimum performance. Cold weather is hard on batteries.
Clean, flush and put new antifreeze in the cooling system. As a general rule of thumb, this should be done every two years.
Make sure heaters, defrosters and wipers work properly. Consider winter wiper blades and use cold weather washer fluid. As a general rule, wiper blades should be replaced every six months.
Check the tire tread depth and tire pressure. During winter, tire pressure should be checked weekly.
Be diligent about changing the oil and filter at recommended intervals. Dirty oil can spell trouble in winter. Consider changing to “winter weight” oil if you live in a cold climate. Have ME2U check the fuel, air and transmission filters at the same time.
If you’re due for a tune-up, have it done before winter sets in. Winter magnifies existing problems such as pings, hard starts, sluggish performance or rough idling.
Have the brakes checked. The braking system is the vehicle’s most important safety item.
Have the exhaust system checked for carbon monoxide leaks, which can be especially dangerous during cold weather driving when windows are closed.
Check to see that exterior and interior lights work and headlights are properly aimed.

Brakes & Brake Fluid
Brakes
The brakes are probably the most important component of your car. When you press the brake pedal, brake fluid is forced down to the brake calipers in each wheel, causing the brake pads to “squeeze” against the brake discs. This friction ensures that you and your passengers can stop safely in case of an emergency, or just in everyday driving conditions.
How do I know if I might need to replace my brakes?
Car pulls to one side
Unusual scrapping noise
Rear wheel locks and skids
Brake pedal becomes “spongy”
Brake pedal is too hard
Car takes too long to stop
Low brake fluid level
Brake warning light illuminating on dashboard
Hand brake has reduced effectiveness and becomes difficult to hold on hills.
Should you become concerned about your vehicle brakes and braking system in anyway simply call us and we will inspect your brake system and advise you FREE OF CHARGE.

You should not underestimate the role of brakes in your safety behind the wheel, which is why good maintenance and regular check ups are vital.
Why are brakes so important?
The brakes are the most essential part in ensuring car safety. Despite all recent technological advancements, we still need to count on our brakes to swiftly respond to today’s hectic traffic conditions. However, no less than 25% of cars have malfunctioning brakes.
How often should I have my brakes checked?
That depends on your driving style and the number of kilometers you drive. If you drive a lot of short distances or have an automatic gearbox more regular check-ups are required.
However, keep in mind you need to have your brakes checked at least once a year (or on average every 20,000 kilometers). Especially the parts that are subject to wear should be checked on a regular basis: the brake pads, discs and drums. Brake fluids have to be checked every two years as they absorb water from the air with time.
When should i call ME2U AUTO SERVICES ?
It is recommended you have your brakes checked on a regular basis, at least once a year. However, immediately book an appointment at ME2U AUTO SERVICES in the following cases:
if the steering wheel vibrates when you brake,
if the brake pedal reacts differently (harder or softer),
if the brakes don’t respond immediately or you need more distance to come to a full stop,
if the brakes and/or ABS signals are lit on your dashboard (please consult your car manual to see what these signals look like).

Just as you prepare yourself and your house to protect it from the cold, your car needs extra preparation to make it through the winter as well. This winter, make sure your car is as prepared as you are. Old or not, cars need attention.
If anything, ask yourself when you last checked these items. The last thing you need is to get stranded on the roads with the family during the middle of winter. There's no getting around winter. Instead of dreading it, prepare for it. The changing of the seasons is a great time to check out what your car needs to gear up for cold, wet, winter driving conditions. Do this before the first flake falls because small problems you ignored during warmer months could grow worse, leaving you stranded when the temperature plummets. A few simple tips could keep your car running all winter long.
Book your car in with ME2U AUTO SERVICE and check out the following:
1. Inspect your antifreeze while your engine is cold by using a tester to check the mixture for its freeze point. A 50/50 ratio means 50% distilled water and 50% antifreeze, which is sufficient in most climates, except in extreme cold.
2. Make sure your brake system is in good condition. Ask mechanics in ME2U Auto service to check your brake pads, brake links, brake discs, and top up a brake fluid. It is important to have a good working brake system especially when the road looks like a glass in winter time.
3. Have your charging system checked at ME2U Auto service. Cold weather starts make the vehicle battery work much harder and getting stranded in the cold is no fun!
4. Change your oil and oil filter. Clean, high quality engine oil goes a long way in protecting the motor in cold start situations. Use the oil recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.
5. Visually inspect all lights; marker bulbs, tail lights, third level brake lights, especially headlights and driving lights. Daylight savings time requires bulbs to work longer hours.
6. Tire Tread condition; check it yourself, or have it checked. Winter driving requires good traction in snow and ice. Quality tire tread sheds the snow, ice and road grime more quickly, providing better traction for improved safety. Check your tire pressure regularly, especially in colder temperatures. Follow the recommended PSI found on the driver’s side door post for maximum traction.
7. Visibility is key to your safety; make sure that your wiper blades are in top condition, to fully clear your windshield, and back window if the vehicle is equipped. Road salt and slush can jeopardize visibility. Use washer fluid containing de-icer and Rain-X Treatment on windows to avoid the chiseling of ice early in the morning.
8. Inspect your engine’s belts and hoses. Cracked, frayed or worn out rubber won’t stand up to temperature extremes.
9. Replace the Cabin Air Filter if the vehicle is equipped. Outside contaminants from Autumn and Summer driving are stranded in the cabin air filter and running the heater on “high” in the extreme cold only sends the micro-particles deeper into the vehicle.
10. Protect your vehicle’s paint. Rain, snow and salt are extremely tough on paint. A tough coating of quality car wax will add another barrier in-between road grime and your vehicle’s paint.
You should also prepare a roadside emergency kit including a flashlight with fresh batteries.
Make sure you don’t miss any of the above points. It’s help you protect yourself and your family on the road in winter time.

NCT Tips From ME2U AUTO SERVICE

To prepare for the NCT,we recommend a car service in the weeks prior to your NCT test as this allows any potential problems to be repaired by a mechanic and it ensures your vehicle is performing at its best.

Check all your exterior lights are working and the light lenses should be intact.

Check your engine fluid levels. The engine oil should be checked when the engine has cooled down after a drive. If it is low,add the correct grade of oil in small amounts until the level is slighty under the max mark.If the level is over the max mark, oil should be drained from your oil sump.

Check your windscreen wipers, lift the wiper arms off the windscreen and inspect the rubber strips are not torn or split.

Check your windscreen washer jets are working and are spraying onto the windscreen accurately.

If your car has hubcaps or wheel covers they should be removed.

If your car has alloy wheels with a security locking wheel stud or nut, check the locking key is in the tool kit or present in the car,it should be easily accessable.

Remove excess luggage from the boot space, the spare wheel must be easily accessable also.

Check the seat belt buckles and receivers are not caught under or in between the seats, check they are engaging.

Check your tyres, the legal thread depth is 1.6mm.They should be wearing down evenly.Check your tyres are ‘E’ marked.Usually a capital (E) or small (e) followed by a number inside a circle. This is located on the sidewall of the tyre.

On your way to the test centre, leave in plenty of time and take your car for a good drive on an open road, rev the engine out in third or fourth gear on occasion. The hotter your engine is the better it will perform during the emissions test.Try not to arrive too early for the test as your engine will cool down when parked or idling.

Finally, don’t forget to bring your vehicle registration certificate, drivers licence and your test fee
