Hi all, Tuam Stars Juvenile club will be participating in this years St. Patrick's Day Parade next Saturday. We will be meeting in O'Toole's back carpark at 12.00. We encourage all members to wear a red top, our club colours, but more importantly, to dress appropriately if the day is cold or wet. To this end, the club have got new hats for our players and supporters. They will be available to paid up members for only €5, as the club is subsidizing the rest. Hats will be available at Academy training next friday evening and before parade. A goody bag, sponsored by the ever generous Quinns sweet shop, will be the treat when parade is over. We hope to see as many as possible taking part and enjoying the parade.

A big Thank You goes out to the organising committee of the parade. The town was in danger of losing the long standing tradition in our town, until this voluntary group took on responsibility of keeping it going. They deserve the support of everyone to help make the event a success which helps show our town in a positive light. Up Tuam......

Winter is on the way and there is no better or important time to ensure your vehicle is in tip top condition. The colder temperatures and winter weather means you’ll want to ensure that your car is equipped for the West of Ireland winter. Conveniently located in the Mall, Tuam Town centre Keane's Garage will ensure your vehicle is at it's best for the changing conditions. Call Keanes Garage on 087 630 5972 and book your winter checkup / service today!

Here are some of the vechicle checks covered:

Tyre pressure and Depth.
Your tyres are your first contact with the road. While the minimum legal requirement for tyre thread depth is 1.6mm we recommend replacing your tyre when the thread depth falls below 3mm. Especially important this time of year as cold weather can cause tyre pressures to decrease.

Battery checks.
A flat battery is one of the most common causes of a winter breakdowns. Again especially important this time of year when weather is colder as batteries have to work harder in low temperatures.

Coolant and Antifreeze.
It’s important to check that you have the right amount of coolant, and if necessary top it up with the correct type of antifreeze. We will ensure that the appropriate antifreeze is used as recommended by your car’s manufacturer.

Handy Tip.
Remember to ensure you’re equipped for all winter driving conditions by popping a de-icer, scraper, shovel & demisting cloth in the glovebox.

Engine oil level
Having the oil and filter changed at recommended service intervals using oil of the correct specification is vital all year round as well as in winter.

Water levels and top up if necessary

Wiper blades
It is important to check your wiper blades and replace them when necessary to ensure you have a clear view of the road. Wiper blades wear down over time and smear the windscreen if they become worn.

Handy Tip
The glow of winter’s low sun can be dazzling and dangerous to drive in when your windscreen is smeared and dirty so checking that your windcreen wash is at the correct level & has a good screenwash additive is vital (actually did you know that it's a legal requirement that the system works!) as water alone won’t clear oily road grime and freezes more readily in winter.

An extremely important part of your winter service is that car lights are in proper working order - See and be seen!

Power steering fluid level
We will ensure that the fluid reservoir is at the appropriate level and topped up only using the correct hydraulic fluid for your make & model of vehicle.

Here's another handy winter motoring tip!
Prevent car locks and door seals from freezing
A thin coat of polish or Vaseline on rubber door seals can stop doors freezing shut – and a sq**rt of WD-40 can do the same for door locks.

Keane's Garage offers complete replacement tyre services for the vast majority of vehicle types.

Your vehicles tyres are your first contact with the road and the safety implications of running on sub standard tyres are one the most important considerations for every motorist.

When should I have my tyres replaced?

It is a legal requirement to replace tyres when the tread depth is less than 1.6 mm or if there is any evidence of damage: bulges, cracks, punctures, perishing of the rubber, etc. Pronounced irregular wear may also be an indication that tyres need to be replaced.
