The Road Safety Authority (RSA) together with An Garda Síochána and the Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA), launch Tyre Safety Day at ESB Networks offices today. As part of Irish Road Safety Week, motorists are encouraged to check their tyres and ensure they are not below the minimum tread depth of 1.6mm (1mm for motorcycles), that they are not damaged and inflated to the correct tyre pressure. https://bit.ly/3rzAZiy

Laois Roads Policing Unit were conducting a checkpoint in Co. Laois when they stopped this van.

The tyre was severely worn and the owner of the was was issued 2 penalty points and a €80 fine.

Laois Roads Policing Unit on patrol today in Mountmellick stopped a driver using a mobile phone while driving. A dangerously worn tyre was also detected when stopped. The tyre was changed and a fixed charge notice issued.

Laois Roads Policing Unit stopped a van towing a trailer for a speeding offence on the M7 this morning. When it was stopped one tyre on the trailer was found to be excessively worn. The vehicle was escorted off the motorway where the tyre was replaced before their journey could continue. Fixed Charge Notice issued.

Laois Roads Policing Unit stopped a vehicle over the weekend and on inspection it transpired that the vehicle had not been tested in 21 months. One of the tyres had the canvas and wire protruding through inside wall...a blowout waiting to happen. Check your tyres.
