“Unique Event and Prizes in a Stunning Location”

The 5th Roundstone Bay 8K takes place May 2016 in the heart of Connemara. The course itself consists of a figure of eight loop, beginning and ending in Roundstone village, and taking in some spectacular coastal views along the way. Both runners and walkers are welcome and the organisers have put on an event that wi

ll cater to all types of participant. Proceeds from the race will go towards the local RNLI Lifeboat service, a hugely worthwhile charity that relies entirely on donations and fundraising to ensure its survival. The course has been officially measured using a Jones Counter, and chip timing will provided to all athletes on the day. There will be a water stop at the 4K point and refreshments will also be served in the local community hall after the race. One of the unique aspects of the Roundstone Bay 8K is that the winners’ prizes consist of individual, bespoke, handcrafted pottery from Roundstone Ceramics. Each item has been individually designed for the occasion and will ensure a lifetime of happy memories for the lucky winners. Prizes will be presented to overall top 3 male and female runners, as well as prizes for first male and female home in the over 40, over 50 and over 60 categories. As well as catering to all your running needs, the organisers have endeavoured to make a day out of it. There will be a DJ at both the Start and Finish lines to help get the atmosphere going, and plenty of locals along the route to offer support and encouragement. Later on in the evening the official Apres-Run party will take place in the village. So why not make a weekend of it and stay for a night or two in Roundstone where the craic will continue long after the run! For more information and online registration, please see:

Event details and schedule

Race pack pick ups will be available from 10am in the Community Hall (located opposite Roundstone House Hotel) and will close at 11.45am sharp on the day of the race. On street parking is available at the church car park and also along Monastery Rd. Paid parking is also available on the grounds of the Community Hall.

It is with regret and a great deal of sorrow that we have to inform you that we have had to cancel this year's Roundstone Bay 8K.

Our chip-timing partner informed us last week that they are now not in a position to provide the service this year, and despite efforts to find a replacement at short notice we have not been able to do so.

As we have always prided ourselves on organising a top quality event, upon reflection we have decided to not proceed with this year's race as we cannot guarantee the same exacting standards that we have in previous years.

We also want to thank all our supporters & participants over the past 5 years and look forward to seeing you again in 2016.

In the interim, I know there are quite a few of you who are still looking to run on that date so we are very happy to recommend the Galway Simon Run which is taking place on Sun 28th June.

The annual Galway Simon Run takes place on 28th June on the Salthill Prom overlooking the beautiful Galway Bay. Choose from a distance of 10km or 10miles.
