It’s good to see this enforcement action from the IAA, who have been far more active in this space in the last 12 months. Unfortunately however the fine is a fraction of the cost of doing these jobs legally and until that deterrent is rectified, there will be more chances taken.

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has taken action against a drone operator who failed to cooperate with an official investigation and ignored a lawful direction not to fly.
The court required the individual to donate €400 to Little Flower Penny Dinners and contribute €750 to the IAA’s legal costs.
IAA Inspector David Hansell said:

“Aviation safety relies on cooperation. Following directions helps keep Ireland’s drone community among the safest in the world.”

Have your say on the Cork T2 consultation before it’s too late

Professionals Ireland has submitted its formal response to the IAA's consultation on the proposed permanent UAS Geographical Zone over City.

Our submission makes 14 recommendations covering governance, separation standards, access procedures, notification timelines, and the proportionality of the proposed zone. We support the integration of BVLOS operations into Irish airspace, but not without the frameworks needed to make it work fairly for all operators.

đź”˝ Download our full submission and read the consultation details here: https://droneprofessionalsireland.ie/press/

đź•” The consultation closes at 17:00 on Saturday 14 March. Individual submissions matter, and the more operators who respond, the harder it is for this to be treated as a box-ticking exercise. Even a short response saying how this zone affects your work carries weight. This is the formal process where your views go on the record. LINK: https://shorturl.at/94hlA

As committee members of DPI, we are constantly working on many aspects of the drone industry. The current situation in Cork came out of nowhere and the drone industry, that saves lives and takes people out of harms way is not being consulted or engaged with to give priority to certain operators. There is airspace for everybody but the vital work drone operators do should not be pushed to the side for coffee deliveries.

DPI is currently engaging with AirNav Ireland and Manna on a proposal discussed this week, but the current arrangements have no formal regulatory basis. Operators have no certainty that informal approvals will be recognised in the event of a regulatory audit or investigation, in the absence of any communications from the Irish Aviation Authority.

Our position remains: withdraw the temporary geozone and establish no permanent zone until the governance structures promised in the National Framework are in place.

This post is for all our followers in Cork City. A TRA, which is a temporary restricted area comes into effect from Friday the 14th February. This means no drone flights in this area without permission from ATC. The current Amber zone will be replaced and all flights in this area need ATC approval which can take more than a week. There is a public consultation to make this permanent, but it hasn’t been sent to the general public. Make sure you have your say. Cork's 96FM Cork's Red FM Cork County Council

Drone rules change how we build safely.

Ever wondered what it takes to fly drones over busy residential sites or developing areas like Palmer Rd and Ravenswell? It’s not just about the tech—every flight must meet strict Irish and EASA regulations, with safety plans tailored to each project. One missed detail can mean costly delays or compliance headaches.

If you’re planning a survey or inspection, let’s talk about how expert drone operations keep your project moving, data accurate, and risks managed.

Message me to discuss your site’s requirements or learn more about safe, compliant drone surveying in Ireland. 🛡️
