The Challenge
There is a major issue affecting these models right now that can completely shut your vehicle down and leave you stranded. We want to explain exactly what’s happening—and how a simple, preventative step can save you thousands of pounds/euros and weeks of stress.⛔
The Cause
Inside your hybrid Land Rover, you have two electrical systems: the big high-voltage battery that drives the wheels, and a standard smaller battery that powers things like your headlights, radio, and dashboard.Connecting these two is a vital component called the DC-DC Converter.
Think of it as an intelligent electrical bridge: its entire job is to take power from the big hybrid system and use it to safely keep your smaller battery charged while you drive.Right now, these converters are overloading and burning out. When they fail, the electrical bridge collapses. Your vehicle completely stops charging itself, the dashboard lights up with errors, and the car becomes completely undrivable.
The Part Shortage
Because this is a known, widespread issue across the Land Rover brand, replacement parts are in extremely high demand. There is a massive global shortage of new DC-DC converters. If you wait for the part to fail, your vehicle could sit parked in a workshop for weeks—or even months—just waiting for a replacement piece to arrive from the factory.
Our Approach
Land Rover has recently released an official TPI (Technical Product Information) campaign.Their engineers discovered that the hardware fails because of how the factory software was originally programmed to manage power.
To fix this, they’ve released a critical software update. This update changes how the vehicle routes electricity, permanently protecting the DC-DC converter from overloading and frying itself. It is a preventative cure. By updating the software before the part fails, you protect the physical hardware, completely bypass the global parts shortage, and eliminate the risk of a sudden breakdown.
